The Russo Brothers have revealed what scene from their box office smash hit, Avengers: Endgameis their favorite. According to an article from ScreenRant, the directing duo has said that their number one moment from the film is when Captain America (Chris Evans) picks up Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) hammer, Mjølnir, and uses it.

To refresh people’s memories, in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Avengers and several of their allies — including Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) — sit around talking while some of the guys try to lift the ancient weapon but fail. Cap comes really close to doing so, and it wipes the smug look from Thor’s face. Steve decides not to show off as to not deflate his friend’s ego further.

During the Battle of Earth, Thor witnesses Steve summon Mjølnir, and his reaction is priceless. “I knew it!” he utters, as it backs up what he saw all those years earlier.

Also, the God of Thunder was looking for an upgrade anyway, as he had Stormbreaker, which had been forged by Eitri and Groot five years earlier.

Joe and Anthony Russo spoke with the Lights Camera Barstool Podcast and explained what their favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe moments were. They said it comes down to their time directing two of three Captain America films prior to their stints with Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. For them, Steve’s story comes “full circle” in that moment when he gets his hands on Mjølnir.

The Russo brothers are just like us, MCU fans who got the opportunity to actually play in the sandbox that started out as a massive ambition when Jon Favreau directed Iron Man all those years ago. Since then, the MCU has exploded into a multi-billion dollar franchise that has taken on a life of its own.

Thanks to these two directing siblings, Endgame has become a turning point in how a massive blockbuster should be done: with cautious execution that doesn’t just appease studio executives or fans, but even the casual viewer.

The Russo brothers had the right idea with closing off some of the character’s stories while opening up doors for others. Just because Cap’s story is now closed, doesn’t mean his companions, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes have to disappear. This is why we’re getting The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in March.
