Thanks to a re-release in China, Avatar has taken back its crown as the highest grossing movie of all time from Avengers: Endgame. It’s quite the accomplishment on its own, but for actor Zoe Saldana it’s cause for celebration because she stars in both movies.

Over the weekend, Avatar earned roughly $12 million at the China box office, giving it the boost it needed to overtake Endgame with $2.8 billion in earnings over Endgame’s $2.797 billion. Prior to this weekend, Endgame had been ahead of James Cameron’s 2009 game-changing science fiction adventure by a little less than $8 million.

Saldana appeared as Neytiri in Avatar, and she will return to the Avatar sequels that are currently in production. Likewise, she first appeared as Gamora in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and returned to the role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Saldana took to social media to celebrate the achievement, adding a special message of gratitude to China for helping to boost Avatar past endgame:

Zoe Saldana owns a unique achievement in Hollywood history

After Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Avatar has become part of the Disney family and that means the two highest grossing films of all time both belong to the studio.

Looking back at Saldana’s career, 2009 marked a turning point when she starred in both Avatar and the Star Trek reboot that has led to two additional films and rumors of a fourth movie on the way.

With her roles in the Avatar, Star Trek and Marvel franchises, Saldana is one of the rare actors who can lay claim to appearing in three major franchises in a relatively short period of time and she’s showing no signs of slowing down as she looks ahead to the Avatar sequels, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and possible involvement in a new Star Trek feature film should one arise.
