The Ellen Show has fired three of its producers due to allegations of toxicity
Ellen-gate has gone from allegations to whistleblowers revealing what it was really like to work on The Ellen Show — and now three top execs have gotten the boot.
Ellen DeGeneres was once a beloved figure in Hollywood with her cheerful and down-to-earth nature. However, guests and staff behind-the-scenes of her talk show have reported a totally different experience. In recent months, allegations of toxic behavior have surfaced. In fact, according to TVLine, three top producers, including executive producers Kevin Leman and Ed Glavin and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman, were all booted from their high-ranking positions this week.
Already-existing producers Mary Connelly, Andy Lassner, and Derek Westervelt will take over the now-vacant roles. Meanwhile, The Ellen Show’s resident DJ, Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss has received a promotion in the form of co-executive producer.

DeGeneres is believed to have broken the news to her staff at the beginning of the week. TVLine was told that it “broke her heart” to have to hear the complaints placed against her show and those who work for her.
Stars such as Brad Garrett and Lea Thompson have come out with their own stories of being mistreated on the Ellen set. In response to the allegations against Ellen, Garrett has said that the harassment on the talk show was common knowledge.
Thompson backed up Garrett’s claims, according to Insider, as she posted a retweet saying of Brad’s link to a Variety article, “True story. It is.”
However, it is has not been all bad press for Ellen. Her close friend, Kevin Hart put out a statement of support for her:
"“It’s crazy to see my friend go thru that she’s going thru publicly. I have known Ellen for years and I can honestly say that she’s one of the dopest people on the f—ing planet. She has treated my family and my team with love and respect from day 1.”"
Another person who has come out swinging at the talk show queen is Neil Breen, an Australian television executive who had a run-in with Ellen’s team in 2013, when she did a series of episodes Down Under. According to 9Now, he told by her producers that entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins had to do the interview that was being scheduled for Channel 9’s The Today Show.
Breen said the following:
"“So Neil, when Ellen gets here today, you’re not to approach her, you’re not to talk to her, she’ll come down and sit down with Richard and you’re not to look at her.”"
His response to this request was:
"“I kind of said you can’t be fair dinkum — I can’t even look at her?!”"
We will always have great respect for Ellen, but the way her staff is presumably treated on her show is not professional. Everyone — no matter many contacts or how much money they have — should be treated with respect. And at the end of the day, the influences of fame, fortune, and success should turn you into a better person.
