As allegations against Ellen DeGeneres continue to surface, many celebrities have come out in defense of the daytime television show host.

Ellen DeGeneres, daytime television host of The Ellen Show, has come under a lot of scrutiny this past month as previous employees keep speaking out about their negative experiences working on her set. There have been allegations of her executives and higher-ups engaging in sexual misconduct with other workers. Staff have also been accused of being racist and just all-around mean to lower-level employees, which goes against DeGeneres’ “Be Kind to One Another” motto.

The allegations surfaced when Buzzfeed posted an article earlier in the year about former employees coming out about the toxic workplace they experienced on set.

DeGeneres has since put out a letter stating she was sorry to anyone who felt mistreated.

As these allegations continue to surface, many celebrities have come out and defended the Finding Dory star, saying their experience being on The Ellen Show wasn’t anything like what the allegations are saying.

One of the first celebrities who posted his support for DeGeneres was Scooter Braun, former manager of Taylor Swift and current manager of many other musicians, such as Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber. Braun posted a long message on Instagram, backing his friend up.

“@TheEllenShow is a kind, thoughtful, courageous human being who stands for what is right and highlights on her show the best of us,” Braun posted.

He went on to say that DeGeneres has changed the views of the world regarding equality, hinting at her story and impact as one of the first openly gay comedians and talk show hosts.

Braun was met with a strong reaction, with many saying that just because DeGeneres was nice to him doesn’t mean she and her staff didn’t abuse others. Many pointed out that the reason for her being kind to him could have something to do with the fact that Braun manages some of the biggest stars in the world.

Tuesday morning, pop sensation, Katy Perry, tweeted her support for DeGeneres as well. Perry and Degeneres are friends, and she has been on the show multiple times, so her support wasn’t surprising to some.

“I know I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience besides my own, but I want to acknowledge that I have only ever had positive takeaways from my time with Ellen & on the @ellenshow,” Perry tweeted.

Perry immediately got hit with backlash from those who were following the story after posting her tweet. One person criticized her by saying that Perry was probably treated better because she’s very famous and has a huge following. Another person gave her a suggested edit for her tweet, proposing she delete everything but, “I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience besides my own.”

Perry hasn’t responded to any of the criticism since she posted on the platform.

Braun and Perry aren’t the only celebrities supporting DeGeneres. Her wife, Portia de Rossi, posted a picture on Instagram with the words “I Stand By Ellen.” De Rossi also got hit with some backlash, but unlike Perry and Braun, a lot of de Rossi’s responses were in agreement with her. De Rossi’s picture started a trend, with many of DeGeneres’ fans reposting the image.

While the majority of celebrities that have been on the show have reported positive experiences, there are a couple who do not. While he did not recall his own experiences on the show, Everybody Loves Raymond star Brad Garrett said in a tweet responding to her apology that DeGeneres’ behavior is common knowledge, and that he knows more than one person that was treated horribly by her. Garrett has appeared on her show six times between the years of 2004 and 2007.

Even before the allegations came out, many people had been digging up clips of DeGeneres being passive agressive and making her guests feel uncomfortable. One of the most prominent clips features 50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson. DeGeneres jokingly asked why she wasn’t invited to Johnson’s 30th birthday party when Johnson snapped back, claiming she had invited her. This clip became viral on the internet and has started a conversation about the way DeGeneres treats her guests.

Another one of these clips is of fellow comedian, Hasan Minhaj, correcting DeGeneres’ pronunciation of his name. Degeneres pointed out that “everybody says his name like that.” Minhaj then talks about how there is a double standard when talking about the pronunciation of names. Many have called this clip racist and used it as further proof of the toxic environment on The Ellen Show.

As the investigation into these allegations continues, many fans seem to be turning on DeGeneres. But although there is so much criticism being thrown at her and her staff, executive producers of the show say she isn’t quitting her show anytime soon.
