Eat a banana so you don’t faint, because a lot happened on this week’s episode of The Bold Type. Let’s start heading for the aisle.

If there’s one thing that The Bold Type is known for, it’s destroying societal norms — in the best ways, of course. So it shouldn’t be at all surprising that we started off Sutton’s wedding planning this week not at a cake tasting, but at a donut tasting!

As always, it’s a riot. Kat got to shove donuts in Jane’s face, solidifying their engagement from a few weeks ago, and the ladies do go nuts for donuts. But Sutton isn’t exactly nuts about the wedding planning process itself.

Sutton and Babs may be in a good place now — to the point where Babs is offering up her old wedding dress, aw! — but that doesn’t erase Sutton’s memories of how her mother always thought that having a man and getting married was the key to happiness.

Combine that with the fact that wedding planning is just plain stressful on its own, and she’s struggling to hit “influencer” follower numbers, and it totally makes sense that Sutton jumps at the opportunity to get away from all the wedding chaos to help Carly out when there’s a problem at school regarding her uniform.

And look, if ever there were a time for another musical moment on The Bold Type, it would’ve been here, having Sutton and Carly belt out “Revolting Children” from Matilda in the car. (And on that note, when exactly are we getting that musical episode that fans and the cast are clamoring for?)

In all fairness, the wedding planning is only overwhelming this early because Jane has successfully pitched a wedding roundup and gotten apparently all of Scarlet involved? This girl is seriously some kind of wizard with the ideas she gets approved.

And on the whole, the staff is pretty “meh” about weddings overall. Except for Oliver, who should be hosting his own “Say Yes To The Dress” spin-off immediately.

Jacqueline is also an exception, who looks back on her wedding day fondly during her interview with Jane. It’s a poignant moment for viewers, knowing what Jacqueline has been going through with Ian. Of course, Jane is clued in pretty quickly because she accidentally left her phone recording in Jacqueline’s office and caught a very private conversation with Ian.

It’s official: Jacqueline and Ian are separating while he’s away. The situation is a lot of things, first among them being scary.

This week was the first time we’ve ever seen Jacqueline truly angry with Jane and it was disarming. Calling the wedding listicle Jane’s worst work ever? Very harsh (but also… kind of fair, considering Jane originally promised an in-depth piece).

But, because this is television, Jane obviously gets to take another run at the piece, once she and Jacqueline have a quick real-talk. Was it just me, though, or did that two-hour window Jane was given suddenly turn into literal nighttime? Jane, girl, you have to meet your deadlines.

Regardless, it led to a beautiful moment, introducing a new important man in Jane’s life: her dad. And he is exactly what we pictured Jane’s dad to be like, right? Let’s not forget; we still get to meet her brother this season too.

Obviously, we can’t gloss over the fact that there’s a new man in — of all people — Kat’s life too. We never actually learn his name though, and he almost certainly won’t be around very long. Right now, Kat is just DTF, not DTN.

As she finds out, she nests pretty quickly with women. With men, she’s a bit more detached. So this should be… interesting.

For what it’s worth, French Ped girl did seem really cool, and it would’ve been fun seeing Kat’s relationship with her grow. But also, how have we still not seen Adena yet this season? We miss you, Nicole Boosheri!
