More details were released today about the latest spinoff of The Walking Dead including when it will air, the setting, and more.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond is the highly anticipated latest spinoff set in The Walking Dead universe.

TWD: World Beyond will follow a group of young adults who grew up in the years after the apocalypse but have always lived safely within the confines of a large community and haven’t had too much exposure to walkers or the world beyond their walls.

They will quickly find out how dangerous that world can be. In case you missed it before here’s the full trailer for The Walking Dead: World Beyond:

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly showrunner Scott Gimple  revealed some new details about the show and where it fits in The Walking Dead universe. Gimple also confirmed that World Beyond will premiere in April.

That means the spinoff’s premiere will overlap with the end of The Walking Dead season 10B and probably will overlap at the other end with Fear The Walking Dead. Logistically, simultaneously running three series set in the same universe is ambitious, but it’s a great development for fans who will have practically a solid year of The Walking Dead shows.

Gimple also revealed that the show is set in Nebraska, even though it’s filmed in Virginia. When asked why Nebraska was picked as the setting, Gimple explained said that the creators wanted the show set in a place that would have no real connection to the other shows. Since The Walking Dead has been set in Virginia since the group found Alexandria and other communities, it makes sense that they would set World Beyond in a totally different part of the country from the original show, and from Fear The Walking Dead which is now set in Texas.

The Timeline Is Close To TWD

A big reveal from this interview was that the timeline of World Beyond is almost concurrent with the timeline of the original show. Gimple said that the two timelines are nearly simultaneous.

World Beyond is behind the timeline forTWD, but only very slightly and not enough that people will notice a difference. That timeline continuity will make crossovers easy, and Gimple also said that crossovers between World Beyond and the other shows are definitely possible.

Crossovers

There have already been a number of crossovers between Fear The Walking Dead and TWD. Both Morgan and Dwight crossed from TWD to FearTWD, and eventually fans might see characters from FearTWD cross back over to the original show. It sounds like now there could be characters crossing from World Beyond into other shows or characters from the other two shows crossing over into World Beyond. Character crossovers are a fantastic way to make the TWD universe stronger and cement the connections between the shows.

In addition to character crossovers there will be more Easter egg style nods to the other shows. Gimple mentioned the Easter egg of when Beta’s album cover appeared in Fear The Walking Dead as one of the albums that Daniel Salazar found. He said fans can expect more of those small ties between the shows, so keep a sharp eye out for those types of references to other TWD universe shows and characters.

CRM

Scott Gimple also said that CRM will continue to be a thread that runs through all of the shows but it won’t be the focus of World Beyond or of any major storylines in the show’s first season. He did say that the team is already working on plans for evolving story arcs in the second season and that there could be a big crossover in season 2 of World Beyond, depending on how those stories evolve.

Could there be even more spinoffs coming that are set in TWD Universe? Gimple said it’s definitely possible. There are a lot of stories to be told and corners of the apocalypse world to be explored so it’s always possible that there will be new shows set in TWD universe to tell those stories.
