Finally the second The Walking Dead spinoff has an official name and a new teaser shows that shows a new piece of the TWD Universe.

AMC first announced another spinoff of The Walking Dead was coming in late spring of last year. Even though the show started filming in July and is set for a spring 2020 debut there was no official name for the series, which was dubbed TWD 3. Not until now, anyway.

On Sunday during The Walking Dead’s midseason finale a new teaser trailer and the official name for TWD 3 were released. Get ready for The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

The teasers that have been released thus show an entirely new aspect to The Walking Dead saga. Both the original show and Fear The Walking Dead have been largely focused on the desperate attempts of small bands of survivors to stay alive and to form some communities that can stand against the dead and against the evil of other humans.

But The Walking Dead: World Beyond shows the remnants of large scale civilization. There are what looks like enclaves of major cities that survived, and even thrived, after the fall of the world. Fans will see what’s left of the larger world, and what it will take to try and rebuild society on a larger scale.

Take a a look at the new teaser for The Walking Dead: World Beyond, which will air this spring.

The survivors in this story are organized, methodical, and prepared. They have weapons specially designed for killing walkers and mass produced. They have helicopters, and plenty of heavy weaponry. They’re not trying to eke out a survival like the other survivors fans have met. It’s going to be very exciting to explore a new part of The Walking Dead universe.

New Additions To The Cast

It was also announced that veteran film and TV actress Julia Ormond has joined the cast of The Walking Dead: World Beyond as Elizabeth.

According to the official AMC press release Elizabeth is “the charismatic leader of a large, sophisticated and formidable force.” She can be seen in the teaser trailer wearing military garb and with a large pin of the familiar concentric circle design.

Fans recognize this as the symbol of what fans call CRM. CRM is the militaristic group that has been featured in both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead. Notably CRM is the group that saved Rick Grimes and was working with Jadis and the Garbage People on the original show.

Also announced to be joining the cast are Natalie Gold, Al Calderon, Scott Adsit, and Ned Sutherland. They join the previously announced main cast of Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Annet Mahendru, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston and Nico Tortorella.

This Is No Teen Drama

Due to the young cast and the footage previously released there was some speculation that World Beyond would be AMC’s attempt at to make a Walking Dead-style teen drama similar to shows like Batwoman, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and The 100.

But as more footage is released and the mythology of the series become clearer it’s obvious that this isn’t going to be just another teen drama, or another apocalypse derivative. Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple and showrunner Matt Negrete, who has written some of the best episodes of the original TWD, are expanding TWD universe and they’re about to show fans a more sophisticated, larger, and darker world.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond will premiere on AMC sometimes in the spring of 2020.
