Titans season 2 episode 6 “Conner” preview: A super-powered addition

Subject 13 goes by many names, but Cadmus experiment isn’t one of them. And since we’ve only seen Conner Kent as a silhouette in season 1, “Conner” will be our first look at the super-powered addition to the Titans lineup.

We’re still basking in all the glorious fight scenes and character interactions from last week. We’re still reveling in Kory’s return to the team and counting on her to managed Dick Grayson’s disarrayed team of Titans. Whereas last week focused on the mystery of the kidnapped Robin, this week will focus on a new one entirely: an escaped Cadmus experiment, Kon-El (i.e. Conner Kent, i.e. Superboy, portrayed by Joshua Orpin).

The last time we saw Conner was in last season’s finale. Though brief, his origins with Cadmus clue us into his troubling — and, at times, tragic– canon origin story. Any character’s backstory is bound to go through a series of reboots and changes, but there are three things we can expect from an incarnation of Conner Kent:

  1. He’s a pseudo-clone of Superman, who also shares Lex Luther’s genes.
  2. He’s a powerful hero.
  3. Above all else, he wants to be good, even despite his genetics.

There has been a three-month time jump since that notorious post-credit scene that revealed Conner and Krypto’s escape from Cadmus. Therefore, there are a few variables this week. With this be a flashback-focused episode like “Aqualad,” or will we figure out what Superboy and his four-legged companion have been up to these last few months?

Judging by some of this week’s promotional material, trouble has been following Kon and Krypto. Kon’s attire is the most notable hint we have for decoding his character development on Titans. Clearly, he’s already an unofficial Titan, and he doesn’t even know it yet. After all, the Titans are the only ones who can get themselves in a lethal predicament without trying. The promo images unravel a curious predicament, but we’re more interested in getting to now DC Universe’s version of Superboy.

Superboy has a lengthy history in the DC Comics universe. As one of our favorite dynamic duos, Kon and Krypto have taken on countless monsters and villains. Kon himself is more synonymous with the Outsiders team, but he has helped the Titans during various missions. He even joined the team during the Teen Titans (2003) run. Heck, he’s even wearing the same Superman t-shirt he wore in that comic, which could mean DC Universe’s Superboy will undergo the same misguided path as his 2003 comic counterpart.

With Conner Kent’s titular episode imminent, Titans could keep us on the ledge in regards to last week’s cliffhanger. However, that doesn’t mean this week’s episode won’t be intense.
