The Arrowverse’s upcoming crossover event is bringing multiple heroes to the table and this includes Brandon Routh’s Superman. And now we have our first look at the actor donning the cape once again.

If you are a fan of Brandon Routh, then you already know that he has already played the Man of Steel once for the big screen. While his take on Superman (sadly) never really took off, his career certainly did, and that helped lead him to the Arrowverse.

As part of the Arrowverse, Routh plays The Atom/Ray Palmer on the ensemble show Legends of Tomorrow. And while we all love Ray and his ability to be sweet, smart, and a bit bumbling, when news broke that he would get the chance to play Superman once again for the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths‘ crossover event, that’s when the real excitement kicked in.

It’s been years since Routh played Superman and that means he has grown up and matured. And now that we have our first look at him donning the suit and cape again, we can honestly say we are even more excited for this particular return.

For the first time in years, it feels like we are getting a truly mature Superman (I love you Henry Cavill, but we aren’t going there). I don’t know about anyone else but seeing Routh in his Kingdom Come inspired Superman suit instantly made me think here is a “daddy Superman.” This more mature take on the Man of Steel is one that I never knew I wanted or needed.

Seriously, just look at the image of Routh in his new Superman suit and tell me he doesn’t look like a perfect representation of a mature Man of Steel. That hint of silver at his temple in his otherwise black hair is all it took for me to fall in love all over again. (If they need a Lois Lane for Routh’s Clark Kent then I volunteer in tribute!)

Having been a fan of Superman Returns, the single movie where Routh embodied Clark Kent’s alter ego, this first look has me hoping that more people fall in love with his take on the character. If ever there was an actor who lived up to the personification of Superman, it feels like Routh does. (Still love you too Tyler Hoechlin!)

Thanks to this first look at the actor’s return to Superman, we can’t wait for the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ to arrive (even knowing it spells the beginning of the end for Arrow). In fact, I would have to say that this tease has us hoping more people fall in love with the mature Superman and we get more of that on our screens as well.
