Leslie Jones might be leaving her SNL days behind her, but with the news that she will be the new host of Supermarket Sweep, we have something to look forward to.

On August 28, news broke that Leslie Jones would be leaving Saturday Night Live after five years. And while the news might seem sad for fans of both the series and the comedian, it did not take long for her next gig to be announced.

According to Entertainment Weekly, it seems that Jones’ first role after SNL will be as the host of the rebooted game show, Supermarket Sweep. And if you remember the original series, then you know just how exciting this news could potentially be.

For anyone unfamiliar with the show, Supermarket Sweep has contestants running through the aisles of a grocery store looking to rack up their totals in order to win big. From special items worth extra money to the quiz round where contestants earn extra time and money for their big shop, the game show is a shopper’s delight.

While some people might be wondering what exactly makes Leslie Jones the perfect choice to host this show, just think back to when she offered commentary on the Olympics. Considering her ability to bring humor to any situation, it seems fitting to have her hosting a show where shoppers go crazy running through the aisles of a supermarket.

Although the original version of Supermarket Sweep did not really offer up the kind of comedy we expect from Jones, that is what makes this decision perfect. What better way to reboot this series than by giving it a fresh approach with a comedic host? After all, just look at people like Steve Harvey and Drew Carey, both of whom have hosted game shows of their own with much success.

In fact, one would almost say that the perfect people to have hosting game shows are comedians who can interject a bit of fun and laughter into a competition. And after growing up with the original version of Supermarket Sweep and wanting to be a contest, it is exciting to see Jones stepping into the hosting role in order to give new life to the program.

It will be interesting to see if the show is changed at all or if they stick to the original format for the game. Plus, with Jones there to keep things fresh, it will be fun to see how contestants react to the comedian herself.
