With her fate left up in the air at the end of its final season, we’re taking a look at some of the ways Jessica Jones could officially join the MCU again.

While starting out as a rather odd and obscure Marvel character to center a television show around, Jessica Jones’ Netflix series quickly developed a dedicated fan base thanks to its smart writing, action scenes and the wry, functioning-alcoholic heroine.

The first season of Jessica Jones debuted in November of 2015, receiving rave reviews from both viewers and critics alike. The series centered around Jessica, former superhero-turned-private eye, as she comes face to face with Kilgrave, a villain who had previously mind-controlled her into committing heinous crimes. Subsequent villains included her biological mother, a version of Foolkiller from the comics and even her own sister.

Jessica Jones‘ supporting cast included Trish Walker (known as Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat in the comics) as Jessica’s adoptive sister, neighbor and ally Malcolm Ducasse, the morally ambiguous attorney Jeri Hogarth, and super love interest, Luke Cage.

The show never shied away from more mature themes like sexuality, assault, rape and living with PTSD. It also went on to win several awards, including the prestigious Peabody Award for excellence in Entertainment Programs. While her series is over, we’ve thought of a few ways she could pop back up in the MCU.

The Defenders (Part II)

In August of 2017, Netflix released The Defenders, a culmination of the four individual series of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Main and supporting characters from each series were featured, coming close to duplicating one of the iterations of The Defenders in Marvel Comics — being referred to as the street-level version of The Avengers.

While all of the Marvel series have been canceled at Netflix, there have been rumors that these characters could reappear down the line in a revamped Defenders series for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. Unfortunately, in Marvel’s deal with Netflix, the characters can’t appear anywhere else until two years after their cancelation. However, losing the great chemistry between this cast, as well losing the opportunity to explore the unfinished business between Jessica and Luke (they’re totally endgame) would be a major mistake for the burgeoning service.

Young Avengers

In the comics, a team of teenage heroes form the Young Avengers following the supposed deaths and disassembling of the original team. At the time, a newspaper reporter, Jessica Jones, tracks the team down to investigate exactly who they are and what their intentions may be.

Along the way, she also becomes a mentor to the team, helping to guide them through the world of super-heroics. She also played an integral part in one of the team’s biggest storylines, The Children’s Crusade, which also heavily featured Wanda Maximoff. It is rumored that Marvel is planning a Young Avengers movie in the future of the MCU, and it would be a great way of showing continuity if it was told through the eyes of Jessica.

She-Hulk

It’s been rumored that Mark Ruffalo had signed on to do a She-Hulk series for Disney+. For those who don’t know, She-Hulk is lawyer Jennifer Walters, a cousin of Bruce Banner’s who gains Hulk-like powers after receiving a blood transfusion from Bruce. She often serves as legal counsel to various superheroes throughout the Marvel universe.

Here’s where it gets a little tricky. In the comics, Jennifer actually employs Patsy Walker (Trish Walker) as her own private investigator. With Trish, ahem, indisposed for the time being (seeing as how she is probably serving a life sentence in The Raft), Jessica would be the perfect candidate to replace her and work alongside Jennifer.

It truly seems like a waste to lose such an amazingly complicated and inspiring character, so we are hoping to see our favorite surly private eye again soon.
