As more details about Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights are revealed, these five movies would make great additions to the haunted house line-up.

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights is the quintessential blend of pop culture and frightening Halloween fun. While Universal theme parks have been working on this year’s haunted houses for over a year, fans are eagerly anticipating another thrilling adventure.

Recently, Universal has revealed a couple of its original themed houses. From the Yeti to the gladiator-inspired ancient Rome Nightingales: Blood Pit, the original houses seem to prey on iconic fear-inducing characters. Even the Depths of Fear channels the creatures of the deep, which makes everyone wonder what is lurking in those murky waters.

Even though the second edition of the Stranger Things haunted house will probably be one of the biggest draws, fans are wondering what other adapted works will be transformed into haunted experiences. Given the recent unveiling of the new Stranger Things poster art, fans are even more excited about this experience.

Last year’s appearance by Eleven made guests cringe with her eerieness. In this year’s experience, could fans see both the strong and softer side of Eleven? Or, is something else lurking around an unexpected turn?

Besides the Stranger Things house, fans are excited about the return of Universal’s Monsters. The classic characters deserve a spot in the pinnacle of Halloween events. Sometimes the well-known characters are scarier than any new ones.

Last year’s Halloween Horror Nights was the biggest (and scariest) event yet. With this year being the 29th season, the Orlando theme park will most likely look to continue to go bigger and scarier.

As fans countdown the days to the Sept. 6 opening night, here are six movies that we want to see transformed into haunted houses at this year’s Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights.

Us

The Jordon Peele movie had everyone questioning what is and what isn’t real. At some point, everyone has had a difficult experience in a carnival funhouse (which hopefully didn’t lead to insane trauma).

In some ways, the themes to this movie blend classic scary tales as well as pop culture moments. It would blend well with both the Stranger Things vibe as well as Universal Monsters.

Since Us is a Universal Pictures production, it could be possible to leverage parts of this movie into a haunted house. There are many creepy elements that would get people jumping and screaming time and again. (Imagine seeing a tethered version of yourself in the distance!)

Amityville

Last year, Halloween Horror Nights found huge success with Poltergeist. Could Amityville bring the same blend of nostalgia and newness to the Halloween themed event?

The very successful Blumhouse Productions released Amityville: The Awakening in 2017. Blumhouse has partnered with Universal on several haunted experiences (including last year’s Happy Death Day-inspired attraction).

The setting of the creepy house could offer numerous twists and turns. From the dark, dank basement to the flickering lights from a power outage, the themes for this type of haunted attraction are many.

Plus, this movie theme nicely blends new and old. When both the kids and the parents can scream in fright, the experience is a huge win for the theme park.

Insidious franchise

The paranormal world always offers a good fright. From characters that are possessed to creepy basements, this series of films offer various scenes that would play well in a haunted house setting.

Often the key to a good haunted house is the creepy characters that are hiding in the shadows and around turns. This series offers a variety of characters that can definitely haunt your nightmares for days (or longer).

Paranormal Activity

Many people grew up fearing the monster under the bed or the noise coming from the closed closet. Could that security camera confirm those ominous creatures out to get you?

In the Paranormal Activity series, the premise is simple. The fears play with your psyche, which can make any haunted house scary for anyone.

Given the various plot lines, this haunted house could build into a huge crescendo or vary the frights throughout. The second option could heighten the fears as guests get a feeling of calm only to be hit with a gigantic scream.

Scream

Who didn’t learn the horror movie rules from Scream? One of the most popular horror movies of all time deserves its moment, again. Having revitalized the horror genre in the ’90s, it could be the time to bring the franchise to Halloween Horror Nights.

Scream would be a wonderful addition because, like Stranger Things, it blends scary and fun. Who didn’t laugh a little before they screamed during these films? Plus, that Scream mask has definitely become a Halloween staple.

Psycho

The shower scene has filled people’s nightmares for years. While the original film may seem rather tame by today’s standards, the Hitchcock film is undoubtedly iconic.

It could be an interesting extension of Universal’s monsters theme. The old house, the shower and the super creepy Norman could be spun in a variety of directions. Sometimes the more cerebral scares leave a more lasting mark.

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights 29 starts on Sept. 6 and runs through Nov. 2 on select nights. The event is separately ticketed.
