Are you brave enough to face the Yeti? At this year’s Halloween Horror Nights, the legendary folklore comes to life in this icy realm.

Lurking in between the snow-covered trees could be your worst nightmare. At this year’s Halloween Horror Nights, the twisted minds at Universal Orlando Resort have created a frozen, perilous trek that could bring your face to face with a Yeti. Do you dare brave Yeti: Terror of the Yukon?

Every year, Universal Orlando Resort conjures sinister, scream inducing experiences that beckon guests to face their biggest fears. While some experiences, like the uber popular Stranger Things house, use well-know, pop culture characters as the storyline, the original houses often leave a much more lasting fear impression.

With this newest haunted experience announcement, the Yeti and his icy domain look to entice the truly brave into this evil realm. But, what can fans expect from this original house?

Looking at the Yeti character, the legend states that the creature comes from the Himalayan mountains. Some cultures referred to this creature as the God of the Hunt. Looking at translations, the word is sometimes referred to as man-bear.

Over the years, the Yeti legend has grown. From the mysterious footprints found in snow to the stories told about encounters on Mount Everest, the myth, legend and fear has grown.

According to Universal, this haunted experience will be set in a frozen tundra. From a destroyed logging camp to ominous, icy caves, there is no way to escape the blood thirsty beast that is preparing your demise.

While Universal does reference a scene from last year’s B-movie themed Slaughter Sinema, these descriptions seem much more brutal than the somewhat-kitchy Slaughter Sinema. No B-movie was ever quite this dark.

In a way, a Yeti themed haunted experience could give Universal a lot of creative license. First, if the creators can make it freezing cold, that instant temperature jolt would definitely set the tone for the experience.

Haunted houses are an assault on your senses. From loud noises to bright lights, the fear factor is heightened due to the sensory overload. You don’t know where to look, prepare for or just move forward.

Additionally, the color scheme for this haunted experience could be quite different from other haunted mazes. Usually, everything is quite dark. If areas are an icy realm, the use of whites and blues could confuse the eye. Again, it is the confusion that adds to the fear.

Universal often uses these original content houses to showcase its creatives. Last year the plant-themed haunted house was quite exceptional. From the plants that seemed to envelope you as you walked through the narrow corridors to the occasional mists that sprinkled from above, the experience was quite intense.

Given the frigid environment of the Yeti, it would make sense that snow, sleet and other elements would cover the brave guests. Maybe even some pieces of fur floating in the air could happen. How else would you be able to track a Yeti?

Although many people will be drawn to the big names, like the Stranger Things house, the original houses are usually more exciting. Since people can predict the storyline, the fear tends to be bolder. In many ways, it the lasting impression with these houses can be quite intense.

While Universal seems to be keeping with the retro vibe in this year’s Halloween Horror Nights, the connection between all the houses and scare zones isn’t quite clear. Although details will continue to unfold, it will be interesting to see how Universal ties everything together.

Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights will run from September 6 through November 2 on select nights. This special event is a separately ticketed event.
