Stranger Things and Nike’s collaboration is here and it’s underwhelming

The Nike and Stranger Things collection we’ve all been waiting for is here. Unfortunately, it does not live up to the hype. Check it out here.

While Stranger Things season 3 doesn’t come out until next month, Nike’s collaboration with the Netflix show releases in just a couple of weeks. The shoe collection is definitely a call back to the ’80s with high-top sneakers, but also uses the Fourth of July theme as the color scheme.

Unfortunately, while the collection does have a few callbacks to the show, if you didn’t know it was a Stranger Things collaboration, you’d just think it was just another Nike shoe.

Let’s look at what we have:

The apparel collection is a little more obvious with Hawkins High School and Hawkins Phys. Ed written across the front but that’s it. There’s no Eleven and the gang to be seen. No demogorgon, no lights, not even any fireworks to represent what this season is about. There are fireworks on the sock liner in what Nike is calling the “OG Pack,” and a few of the sneakers have “1985” printed on the back but that’s it.

Sure, the characters would wear these shoes on the show, but if you really want to show your fan pride, this collection isn’t for you. Considering this collaboration was pretty hyped up, this is kind of a let down.

The marketing and announcement are much more creative than the actual product. Nike tweeted out a video stating that several shipments of shoes have been missing since 1985, but they’ve finally been found. They display the shoes on torn-apart packages like they’ve been driven around for decades and possibly been attacked by a monster. That highlights the show much better than the actual product does.

But, if you like what you’re seeing in the pictures, you only have a couple more weeks to wait for the first capsule collection to drop. The first drop will be June 27 and will feature the green and orange sneakers, green and white sneakers, and red, white and green sneakers (all around $120) along with the hoodies and sweatpants to match.

The second capsule, aka the OG Pack, will come out on July 1 and is all about the red, white, and blue with a completely red sneaker, a blue one, and a red, white, and blue option for anyone who wants to rock them for your July 4 barbecue and Stranger Things marathon.

If this isn’t your style, don’t worry. Lots of brands are collaborating with the hit show. Whether you’re looking for sneakers, clothes, or toys, you’re bound to find one that you love! There is even a LEGO set!
