Swamp Thing’s cancellation is a huge disappointment for DC fans

Swamp Thing has only released one episode and already, the show will be completely canceled after its first season.

Swamp Thing will not be living long enough to see another day, at least after its first season is over. In disappointing news from Variety, we now know that DC Universe has canceled one of its original series.

While Doom Patrol and Titans live on to see another season, Swamp Thing, which has been mired in difficulty for a while now, will only get to tell a short story before exiting stage left. Even though we have only seen one episode of the streaming series, the service has decided that one season was all the series would be getting.

The problem with cancelling the series after one episode is that no one has had the chance to really get to know these characters and what makes them so special. At the same time, for fans of DC and Swamp Thing, this is a major disappointment as we not only don’t get to watch the tales of the mystical swamp play out, but we don’t get to see this series live up to the promise it has already exhibited.

Even though I am a big fan of both Titans and Doom Patrol, I can easily argue that based on a single episode, Swamp Thing was definitely stronger than the latter show, at the very least. Not only did we get to see emotional depth from multiple characters, but it did not take long for the series to dive into the core of their show.

In a single episode, the series was able to introduce us to not only the swamp where all of the weird and magical things happen (and deadly too obviously), but we also started to get actual backstory about this town and these people. And not just that, but the titular character is one of the more interesting and unique individuals in all of the DC Comics. So to lose such a promising show without even giving it a chance to shine is devastating.

Clearly, I am not alone in my thoughts on this, as fans of DC and Swamp Thing have already begun using #SaveSwampThing. Fans were quick to share their disappointment over the cancellation news, while also pointing out how much potential the series showed in just a single episode.

Without giving the show a chance to really prove itself, it feels like DC Universe and Warner Brothers have failed its fans and Swamp Thing. While we still have the rest of the season to appreciate, it doesn’t mean as much knowing that at the end of this we won’t get to dive deeper into this world, these characters, or what the future holds. And if they end on a cliff-hanger, we likely won’t forgive the streaming service for a long time to come.
