It takes a lot for the crew on Brooklyn Nine-Nine to get frazzled. This week, they search for a hacker and deal with their own problems.
This week on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, we were gifted with the precinct having to work together to stop a hacker. The problem? They were all worried about their own problems as well. It’s been a common thread this season that with each episode, one of our favorite characters is focusing their energy on their case as well as themselves.
First, it was Jake Peralta when he was dealing with the therapist case. He was working but found himself also looking back to what he needed to fix in his own life. Then came Jake and Amy dealing with their different views on kids in the middle of case and then, last week, Holt’s concern over his relationship with Kevin took over the case at Kevin’s work. This week, it’s Rosa Diaz.
When a hacker comes to the Nine-Nine, they have to find out why they’re trying to take over the system and who is doing it. The computer tech helping them? Sean Astin. He’s working with Holt and Jake and Rosa must search the precinct to find out who is trying to hack their system.
The problem is that Rosa’s girlfriend, Jocelyn, comes to the precinct before her trip and plans on breaking up with Rosa because all she cares about is work. Throughout the episode, she’s forced into paying attention to the case while trying to talk to her girlfriend and it is a split between Rosa attempting to do her job while also focusing her time and energy on her girlfriend.
Luckily, Jake has her back and, as a precinct, they figure out who the hacker actually is (even if Hitchcock and Scully are too worried about making a lasagna and garlic bread to really care). They work together, everyone’s problems are solved, and we have yet another great episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Does that mean this is the new trend though? Are we going to get more and more episodes like this? It is fun but also, these fun guest stars are a wonderful addition to the show! We did get a treat with Sean Astin on the show this week. When it came to saving the show, Astin, as well as Lin-Manuel Miranda, were two stars who openly campaigned for someone to save the show. So it is only fitting that they both have had a guest-starring role this season!
Does that mean we’ll get Mark Hamill soon? Maybe we’ll be a villain. Hopefully! But until then, we’re lucky to have both Astin and Miranda on the show. Maybe next week, Boyle will get his time to shine once more because really, where was Charles Boyle this episode? You know he’d be trying to help Jake and Rosa to an annoying degree!
