Shadowhunters: Max Lightwood is still doing okay!

After being attacked by Jonathan in the final episodes of Shadowhunters season 2, Max was in rough shape. The good news is: he’s still okay!

This season on Shadowhunters, characters are coming and going like crazy. But there’s one character who’s barely even been mentioned, and he was fairly prominent in the final episodes of last season.

It’s time we ask: where in the world is Max Lightwood?

For the most part, the Shadowhunters writers’ room has done a good job of cinching loose ends this season. Raphael has seemingly left town, the Seelie Queen has locked herself in her realm, and Luke evicted Simon, so even Russell’s taken care of.

Now, given everything going on this season with Lilith, Jace and the rest of the Shadow World, it’s admittedly easy to forget about the youngest Lightwood sibling.

Max was an important character in the books, and in the show. Then, after surviving Jonathan’s attack, he just sort of disappeared. He was mentioned in passing in “Thy Soul Instructed,” but otherwise hasn’t been heard from.

So what’s going on? If he’s a full-fledged Shadowhunter now, why isn’t he working with his siblings? Isabelle might’ve mentioned where he is, but it was quick.

For those who have been wondering the same thing, it seems there is an official answer. One of the Shadowhunters writers tweeted out that Max is actually across the country:

Given how things went for Max last time Sebastian/Jonathan was at his full strength, it’s probably a good thing he’s far away from New York.

This time when Jonathan returns (because it is more of a when than an if at this point), he’ll have his mother at his side. Poor Max really wouldn’t stand a chance. And keeping him alive would be a welcome deviation from the books.

It is possible we’ll see him again soon though. It could be as soon as the next episode. Mallory also tweeted about an upcoming moment with the Lightwood clan:

Hopefully, he’ll be included in the scene. It’s been a dark season, and it looks like it’s getting even darker. We could use a bit of brightness from Max.
