Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Stamp those passports

Game of Thrones season 8 will be returning to yet another familiar country to film more scenes, and this time it’s with reports of two major stars.

Warning: We’re getting into the major kinds of Game of Thrones spoilers that make the offseason pretty fun, even if it is extra long this year as we wait for season 8.

Emilia Clarke has been spotted for the first time in a while — we joked recently about how we’d like to see Daenerys at Winterfell. Alas, the actress isn’t at Moneyglass just yet, but rather, per both Watchers on the Wall and our sister site, Winter is Coming, she is with Kit Harington … in Iceland, of all places.

Now, both WOTW and WiC point out that Iceland is typically for the realm beyond the Wall, although WOTW adds the caveat that with winter officially arriving in Westeros, it’s possible that these shots could establish just how wintry it is up North. That would track with WiC’s note that it’s believed Icelandic production won’t last for very long.

Besides, what could lay beyond the Wall for them? An attempt to recover Viserion’s body, since they don’t know about the Night King’s little magic trick? It would also give them an excuse to revisit the Wall and find out about its destruction, only for them to race back to Winterfell and possibly already find it burning, as recent set photos have shown.

We’re not saying that that’s how it could be playing out, but the more we think on it, the more we think it’s definitely a possibility, and a likely one at that. It would allow, character-wise, for there to be a moment of pure shock for Daenerys to see her lost child turned against her; Jon, meanwhile, would have to deal with the idea of his family and his home being in danger so soon after rescuing them all and fighting for them in season 6.
