Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Getting back on the ship

Could there be something resembling hope for a particularly popular Game of Thrones ship in season 8? Spoilers seem to suggest that it could be the case.

Warning: Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers and talk of shipping? That’s what we like to talk about going into the weekend.

Game of Thrones season 8 could be breathing new life into a rather dormant pairing, according to new reports sourced originally from r/freefolk on Reddit. Unfortunately, there are no photos this time, but fans have reported that both Gwendoline Christie and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau are back in Belfast.

For the uninitiated, that means that Brienne of Tarth and Jaime Lannister should be back in action … and considering that as of this writing, one of the top comments basically says that we should expect the kind of scenes that make the show earn its TV-MA rating, it seems as though it’s finally time to resurrect the ship of Jaime/Brienne.

Granted, they actually saw each other again in season 7, albeit briefly, but, as other commenters note (in more explicit terms), a lot has happened to Jaime even in that brief span of time (namely, the whole finally abandoning his sister thing).

Of course, we can’t expect that they’ll both live to the end of the series, just because that would be way too perfect, frankly. And, as commenters note, it’s possible they aren’t filming together, but just let us have this. Besides, it’s not unlikely, due to Jaime’s stated plan at the end of season 7: help fend off the invasion of the Night King.

Brienne and Jaime, even if their relationship doesn’t take a romantic turn, have the kind of dynamic that makes Game of Thrones worth watching anyways. Besides, as previously noted, he has some combat experience.

Is it too much to wish for a Jaime/Brienne combat scene against the White Walkers and their legions of the undead? Just let the image wash over you for a second — or more if you want to choreograph it out and add music or something. We’re not going to judge.
