Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Rey’s definitely getting better with that lightsaber

A new teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has Rey looking pleased with herself and showing off some new skills with a lightsaber, but what does it mean?

This probably shouldn’t come as a shock, given that the first poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi had Rey holding her lightsaber aloft and subsequent teasers have shown that she’s on a mission to make rocks an endangered species (good luck with that), but apparently, she’ll be better than that with her new weapon of choice. Of course, that’s if this teaser, coming to us via Star Wars News Net, is any indication.

It’s quite a short shot, all told, but it’s hard not to read some sort of satisfaction in Rey’s expression as she casually twirls her lightsaber in her hand. And why shouldn’t she be? There can’t be that many people out there who would try to do what she does with a lightsaber, let alone a live lightsaber and not the plastic ones that we have to use to pretend that we’re part of the Star Wars universe.

Is there room for a moment to have Luke scold her for being so casual with it? After all, the man literally lost a hand to a lightsaber, and his father lost both of them … and both his legs. Toys, they are not!

But to see her much more at ease with the weapon has us feeling a little better. Are we going to get a Rey/Kylo Ren rematch in The Last Jedi? It would be a nice contrast of styles — her apparent finesse against his brute force, all with perhaps a dramatic backdrop like that one we keep seeing when Kylo holds his hand out.

Just give us our lightsaber fights, Lucasfilm. Even though we’re all guilty of imagining fights of our own, we know that the choreographers (and the special effects) can make it way cooler than we can probably imagine.

Although, as a certain scoundrel once said, we “can imagine quite a bit“…
