Game of Thrones season 7: 3 questions for “The Dragon and the Wolf”

After careful analysis of both the photos and the preview for the Game of Thrones season 7 finale, here are three things we want to know.

These last few weeks have felt like a wild ride if you’ve been following along with Game of Thrones. It’s safe to say that our anticipation is high for the season 7 finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf.” Yours truly has been talking about the preview since those Monday morning predictions, and it’s after a second look at the photos that I’ve come up with these three things I want to know before Game of Thrones wraps this episode up.

What is up with Theon?

In the photo set for the season finale, it was a bit of a surprise to see Theon Greyjoy’s face pop up. At that time, I speculated that he had come back to Dragonstone. Are we going to be made to care about his pain again?

Is he going to try a reckless mission to rescue his sister without Daenerys’ help? Is Theon finally going to die? We can spot him on the ship with Tyrion in the preview, so this is probably all wishful thinking.

Honestly, I care more about Yara than I do Theon, so I’d be happy if it ends up that he sacrifices himself for her to go free and maybe takes Euron with him to leave Yara as the undisputed queen of sailing.

Where’s Daenerys? Why is she missing?

This is a theme I’ve been harping on since I saw the preview, and it became more apparent when the photos also failed to show off anything of Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen. (I even stated in that photo analysis, “Who isn’t there is probably about as, if not even more, important than who is present.”)

This is almost certainly something that’s being done on purpose. There is a reason that we have neither seen nor heard anything from Dany that comes from this episode.

What that is, I’m legitimately not sure at this point. Is it a significant change to her look, a la her white coat in “Beyond the Wall”? Is it a change to her hair? Is it something else entirely?

Will we get another Jaime and Tyrion scene?

Watching Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage play off each other is glorious, and we’d like to see more of it. The Jaime and Tyrion relationship is so complex and fascinating. Their little King’s Landing meeting earlier this season let them both display all kinds of emotions, and it got deep in only a couple minutes.
