3 things we learned from the Star Wars: The Last Jedi photos

Star Wars: The Last Jedi remains quite mysterious, but a new release of images has a few interesting things here and there.

The powers that be at Lucasfilm (and ultimately Disney) have deigned to release a deluge of Star Wars: The Last Jedi information, including photos, to Entertainment Weekly. The 10 photos themselves aren’t the most informative in the world, but the captions are. Here are three things we picked up on.

Finn’s getting his license

Finn’s definitely up and at ’em instead of spending most of the movie convalescing, which was a concern after the first trailer droppedEW‘s photo shows him at the controls of a ship, headset on, and mentions that he “picks up new skills.” That’s actually not a bad thing; it removes his reliance on people like Rey and Poe to get him places, and it lets him take a greater role in the Resistance overall.

Of course, you’d think that maybe General Leia would want to keep him close, since he’s presumably one of the best sources of information they have on the First Order, but the Order also knows of his defection and has probably started changing things in response anyway.

Kylo Ren’s scar is still gnarly

Although he did show up in the first trailer, most of Kylo Ren’s frames were taken up by his lightsaber. We knew already that the scar wouldn’t exactly line up with the wound he received from Rey in The Force Awakens, but the new photo shows that it’s actually a little Tyrion-Lannister-like now as well. Since growing facial hair would make him look more like his uncle Luke Skywalker, we don’t think Kylo will go that route to hide it. However, it does extend all the way down to his neck, and it definitely makes him look a bit more evil. The caption of the photo says that he’s “retreating to Supreme Leader Snoke.”

Leaks have suggested more about what seeing Snoke might actually entail.

Poe Dameron is still fine

Okay, this isn’t really a thing we learned, but it’s good to be reminded of such things. Anyway, EW‘s pic has Poe in the cockpit of what appears to be his signature black-and-orange X-wing. The motion blur suggests he might be taking off to engage in some combat — we’ve speculated about that ourselves, but beware possible spoilers — but regardless, seeing Poe has us happy. Hopefully he can avoid capture this time around.
