“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD:” What Might Be the Fate of Director Mace

In “Agents of SHIELD,” Director Mace is a prisoner of the Watch Dogs, completely powerless. We try to make an educated guess as to what his fate may be in next week’s episode

At the end of this week’s Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Jeffrey Mace was taken hostage by the Watch Dogs and the Superior. While they do have the (PR) Director of SHIELD, they still know him as an Inhuman.

And as we fully know, they don’t like Inhumans.

Mace certainly took one for the team, but it may not have been the smartest idea in the world. Even injecting himself with his super soldier serum might end his life, and while it didn’t in this week’s episode, he might get desperate enough to try it again.

So my question to you, Agents of SHIELD fans: will Jeffrey Mace survive or will he die in the name of SHIELD and Inhuman justice? Let’s play both sides of the coin.

Yes, He Survives!

Okay, they just killed off Senator Nadeer kind of out of the blue. Why immediately kill Mace after his PR enemy just died?

Plus, the political outcry after offing the Director of SHIELD might actually backfire for the Russians and the Watch Dogs.

SHIELD is very good at getting people out of hostage situations. With Melinda May still MIA, they aren’t going to take a chance losing one of their Directors. Sure, he’ll come away with some bruises and probably some mental scars from the torture.

They won’t make it easy to rescue him, that’s for sure.Five bucks says they try to do a “Coulson for May and also the Director” kind of switch. This is more than likely what Agents of SHIELD will do (keep Mace alive, that is), but at least it will keep the stakes high for our team.

No, He Doesn’t!

This is the easier path for our Russian enemies. Hold Mace’s life in the balance, barter with SHIELD, and then kill him anyway.

There are so many ways this can go completely sideways. You know they’ll find out that he’s not Inhuman. They’ll find the serum in his super suit. They’ll inject him, and he’ll have a heart attack and die.

They will try that “Coulson for May and also the Director” kind of switch, but the moment they have Coulson, they’ll kill Mace anyway. Maybe he’ll be more like the Koenigs and the thought of torture just gets to him after a while.

It would be the ultimate sacrifice play, and that’s what Mace thinks his position is on this SHIELD team. Is there a way to convince him otherwise? His death doesn’t have to be needless, and doing it this way would certainly feel that way.

Agents of SHIELD can go either way on this one. However, I don’t think they’re ready to kill the Director quite yet. He is a good blocker and a fantastic PR man. SHIELD does need him to keep them on the right path.
