June 20th officially marks the start of summer, and if you're not reading this summer, you're seriously missing out. While we're here to talk about romance books, there are plenty of other amazing non-romance books coming out.
2025 has been a great year to be a reader as there are so many amazing books being published every single month. Whether you're a strictly indie reader or love traditionally published titles, you're bound to find something to enjoy.
That's why creating this list of upcoming romance books releasing in June, July, August, and early September was an absolute must. Not only will it help keep me organized, but it will hopefully ensure that you're able to find something new to read. You might even discover a new favorite author, which is always a great feeling.
As with any of these other list, these are just the books I found while doing some research. There are so many great resources out there so be sure to check out your favorite bookish website if you're looking for even more romance books to add to your summer TBR.
These 20 romance books will have you looking forward to summer.
Most of this list is going to feature unreleased books, but since June is coming to an end, I thought it would be only be right to talk about some books that were released in June or are coming out at the end of June so let's start with those titles first.
1. Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston (June 17)
Would any list of summer books be complete without Ashley Poston? Poston has written 3 romance novels that took the bookish world by storm. Her books are romances with just a dash of magic, and sometimes, that's exactly what you're looking for. Sounds Like Love is a romance between two musicians who have an unlikely connection. Knowing Ashley Poston and her writing, she'll have you swooning by chapter 2.
2. I Think I'm in Love With an Alien by Ann Aguirre (June 17)
Another June 17th release to pick up is I Think I'm In Love With an Alien by Ann Aguirre. She has written such a vast array of different romances and different age groups that I'd trust anything Ann Aguirre writes. This story follows Tamzir, an alien who was left on Earth which is a struggle, but he has his online persona, Seeker. Seeker has a connection with Jennette, and the two, along with their friends, agree to meet up at Space Con. Sounds like it's going to be out-of-this-world and totally fun.
3. When Javi Dumped Mari by Mia Sosa (June 24)
Mia Sosa has written some truly incredible romances and her latest from Putnam was an absolute must-add to the TBR. Aside from having a stunningly gorgeous cover, this book just feels like it's going to be the perfect thing to throw into your beach bag. When Javi Dumped Mari follows Javi who is in love with Mari but waits too long and she ends up getting engaged to someone else. From there, it becomes a race against the clock for Javi to prove why he's the right guy for her. Sounds like a unique romance to say the least.
4. An Ancient Witch's Guide to Modern Dating by Cecilia Edward (June 24)
For those celebrating Summerween, this feels like the perfect book to pick up. Aside from having a gorgeous cover, An Ancient Witch's Guide to Modern Dating is a debut romance from Cecilia Edward and that's always something to champion. The story follows Thorn who is a 39-year-old witch who gets transported to the present from the 17th century. From there, it's her story of looking for romance and that just sounds like an interesting time.
5. Crash Test by Amy James (July 1)
Moving right ahead to some July releases, Crash Test by Amy James is coming out on July 1st. This is a book that I've gotten an ARC of and have already started reading. While I've only read one chapter, it was enough to have me hooked. This is an M/M romance between F1 drivers who are secretly together. Jacob has a bad accident, and Travis doesn't know what to do about it, so it sounds like it's going to be a fun yet angsty time.
6. Scotch on the Rocks by Elliot Fletcher (July 8)
Sometimes, it's alright to judge a book by its cover, and Scotch on the Rocks by Eliot Fletcher might have the sexiest cover of this whole list. When you go to look up this book, make sure that you look at that cover and just admire it. This is the 2nd book in her The Macabe Brothers series and it follows June and Callum. Described as an opposites-attract romance, this one sounds like a lot of fun. It seems like the perfect book to download on your Kindle and read while soaking up some of the summer sun.
7. Maid for Each Other by Lynn Painter (July 15)
When I think of summer reads, Lynn Painter is one of the first authors to come to mind. She's written both young adult and adult romances so she makes a great stepping stone for some. Her books are so fun and easy to get into so they're perfect for the beach. Her July release from Berkley is Maid for Each Other, which follows Abi who is a cleaner who decides to stay in one of her clients' houses while he's not there. Turns out his parents come to visit and assume she's his girlfriend, and it goes from there. No doubt it'll be as fun and charming as Lynn Painter's other books.
8. Roll for Romance by Lenora Woods ( July 15)
If you're looking for a nerdy romance, then it's time to place your bets on Roll for Romance by Lenora Woods. This is Lenora Woods' debut and it follows Sadie who after losing her job decides to move from NYC back to Texas. From there, she ends up joining her friend's Dugeons & Dragons campaign where she meets Noah, a handsome bartender. Sounds like it's going to be a fun nerdy time while also showcasing some great character growth for our main character, Sadie.
9. No Body No Crime by Tess Sharpe (July 15)
Flipping the script a little bit, No Body No Crime is a book that isn't technically a romance but has romance in it so I'm counting it. Plus the publisher was kind enough to send me an ARC which I am eternally grateful for. No Body No Crime follows Mel, who is a private investigator that is tasked with finding Chloe, her former friend and lover. The synopsis doesn't say as much but it's alluded to and it features these two coming to terms with their past and possibly coming back together. It honestly sounds so intense and fun, making it a great vacation read.
10. August Lane by Regina Black (July 29)
Wrapping up July is August Lane by Regina Black. Talk about a great book to end July with and start just ahead of August. Before getting into what this book is about, you need to read Regina Black's debut novel, A Touch of Scandal as it was one of the sexiest books I read last year. No doubt August Lane is going to keep the same energy. August Lane is a dramatic tale of two Black country artists, August and Luke who reunite after Luke stole her song and claimed it as his own 10 years ago. If that isn't enough to hook you, I don't know what else will but it sounds like the romance I've been waiting for.
11. If Not For My Baby by Kate Golden (August 5)
Sometimes, you're just craving a good rockstar romance, and that's where If Not For My Baby by Kate Golden comes in. Golden has previously written romantasy but she's now diving into contemporary, and what a trope to start with. This story follows Clementine who is a backup singer who gets the chance to tour with an incredibly popular musician named Halloran. While it ends up being a romance between the two, it's not without its drama, and that's something I'm always down for. If Not For My Baby sounds like it's going to be an incredible read and is one I already have on my TBR.
12. Zomromcom by Olivia Dade (August 5)
Olivia Dade has written some truly fun books but she's taking it to the next level with Zomromcom. I feel like this book has been everywhere lately because of its adorable cover but the premise for the book is even better. Zomromcom is about Edie who ends up working with her neighbor, Gaston as they're dealing with a zombie outbreak. Oh and did I mention that Gaston is a vampire? Sounds like it's going to live up to its title.
13. Red Card by Maren Moore (August 12)
For those craving a sports romance in the summer, then Red Card is going to be the next one to add to your already massive TBR. Written by Maren Moore, the titles it's being compared to are She's the Man and She's All That so basically, a mix of two of the 2000s most beloved rom-coms. I was hooked after seeing that. Red Card follows Cillian, a British rugby player at a New Hampshire college and he ends up striking up a deal with Rory to give her lessons which just sounds so fun and sexy.
14. Gabriela and His Grace by Liana De la Rosa (August 26)
Coming out on August 26th is Gabriela and His Grace. This is the final book in The Luna Sisters series and we're finally getting Gabriela's story. Liana De la Rosa has already given us too incredible fun and compelling romances that I can't wait to see Gabriela finally get her HEA. From how it's described, Gabriela and Sebastian end up trapped together on a ship, headed for Mexico. It sounds like some great forced proximity, giving way to plenty of tension and chemistry, which Liana De la Rosa does excellently.
15. The Secret Crush Book Club by Karmen Lee (August 26)
Another August 26th release worth checking out is The Secret Crush Book Club by Karmen Lee. This is the third book in her Peach Blossom series. All of these books are sapphic romances and considering I read The 7-10 Split in an afternoon, I highly recommend these for the beach. This is a romance between Dani who is a single mom and Zoe, the town's new librarian. These two end up in a book club together and it goes from there. Sounds like the perfect bookish read.
16. The Gilded Heiress by Joanna Shupe (August 26)
If there's one author I'll drop everything to read, it's Joanna Shupe. While I don't mention or read as much historical romance, Joanna Shupe is an author whose entire backlist I've read so I've been waiting a good while for a new release. I'm glad we waited because The Gilded Heiress is an Anastasia-inspired story. We're following Josie who is noticed on the street by Leo as looking like the mother of a missing baby so he wants to try to make a quick buck and pull off a con in the process. If it's Joanna Shupe though, I know I'm going to love it no matter what.
17. The Good Girl Effect by Sara Cate (September 2)
Looking at the first September release, the first that came to mind was The Good Girl Effect by Sara Cate. This is the start of her Salacious Legacy series which is the biggest incentive to finish the previous series before starting. The Good Girl Effect follows Jack St Claire, who is a widowed single father and he's looking for a live-in nanny to help him. He finds Camille and from there, it sounds like a deliciously sexy time between two unlikely partners. Then again, that's what Sara Cate does best so I know it'll be great.
18. By the Horns by Ruby Dixon (September 2)
Ruby Dixon is the queen of monster and alien romances so no doubt By The Horns is going to continue that trend. The first book, Bull Moon Rising ended up being one of my favorites of the year so I'm excited for what's next. By the Horns follows Gwenna, whom we met in the first book and it's her romance with Raptor who is a little more attached than Gwenna would like. However, he believes her to be a thief and with everything pointing to her, we'll have to find out how these two handle everything while falling for each other.
19. People Watching by Hannah Bonam-Young (September 9)
Hannah Bonam-Young is releasing her next novel with Dell which is People Watching. We're following Prue who is dealing with taking care of her parents while also trying to figure out her own life. In comes Milo who is a traveler by nature. The two end up becoming friends and maybe more but their different life circumstances might end up being the death of them. Sounds like the perfect read to help you transition from summer into fall.
20. We Met Like This by Kasie West (September 16)
Finishing out the list is We Met Like This by Kasie West. If you recognize that author's name, she has previously written young adult books and she's releasing her adult romance debut. I don't know about you, but I'm incredibly excited for this one. I loved Kasie West's books when I first got back into reading so this is exciting. We Met Like This is a romance between Margo and Oliver who had a disastrous date but end up matching again and again on dating apps so they end up spending some time together. Sounds like the recipe for a fun and delightful romance from a beloved author.
