Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is headed for a Halloween release on Disney Channel and Disney+
Just like its predecessor, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is capitalizing on the Halloween season to release the series premiere. The sequel series will premiere with two back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, October 29th at 8/7c, and then with two more on Wednesday, October 30th, before settling into its weekly release on Fridays, starting on November 8th at 8/7c. The first eight episodes of the show will be available to watch on Disney+ on Wednesday, October 30th.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will follow Justin's family, who grew up in an environment without magic, and how that changes when Alex shows up to bring magic into their lives. Alex bringing a sarcastic troublemaker into Justin's home is not just reminiscent of the original series, where straight-laced Justin constantly had to deal with his younger sister's wit and street smarts, but it is also a reminder of the fourth season of Wizards of Waverly Place, where Justin took over the role of tutoring a group of wizard delinquents.
But, David Henrie's return as a series regular and Selena Gomez's return as a guest star and executive producer is not where this show ends its interesting ties to Disney Channel's history. Recent news revealed that Raven Symoné of That's So Raven and Raven's Home and Danielle Fishel of Girl Meets World are set to return to Disney Channel to direct episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
Both Raven Symoné and Danielle Fishel directed episodes of their respective Disney Channel shows, each of which happened to be a sequel series of their own.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will also feature the return of David DeLuise, who played Jerry Russo in the original series. There is certainly hope to see more of the original cast from Wizards of Waverly Place reprise their roles, such as Jake T. Austin, who played Max Russo; Jennifer Stone, who played Harper Finkle; and Maria Canals-Barrera, who played Theresa Russo.
Most of the original cast had reprised their roles in the return film The Wizards Return: Alex Vs. Alex an hour-long special that premiered one year after the series finale of Wizards of Waverly Place.
Wizards of Waverly Place was one of the most successful and popular Disney Channel shows, and it will be exciting to see how Wizards Beyond Waverly Place lives up to its legacy.
