Christmas in July? No. More like the start of horror movie season! It’s officially hot horror girl summer with the arrival of Mia Goth in MaXXXine, in theaters everywhere July 5.

Mia Goth continues to be A24’s top scream queen and it’s easy to see why. Goth makes spookiness hot in a way only a few stars can, and she makes it look effortless! In MaXXXine, Goth returns to portray the iconic Maxine Minx. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, tougher, and in Maxine’s case, hotter. After surviving the bloody massacre in Texas, Maxine hightailed it out of there and didn’t look back.

Maxine is now living in Los Angeles and struggling to make it in Hollywood, but she is not giving up on her dreams of become a STAR. After all, we should never accept a life we don’t deserve, am I right? The movie is set in the mid-1980s, during the time Richard Ramirez (aka the Night Stalker) was haunting the streets. But avoiding this monster isn’t the only thing Maxine has to worry about, she is also running from a very dark past. But is it everyone else who should be worried about Maxine? Because our girl did not come out to L.A. to play!

In one of the first scenes of the movie, Maxine demonstrates just how determined and ruthless she is when it comes to taking down anyone who stands in her way. The scene is so cringe in the best way! The audience at my screening was laughing and cheering during this particular moment. Sorry, no spoilers here! But when you see it, you’ll know exactly what I'm talking about.

This isn’t the only over-the top sequence the movie features. There are plenty of wild scenes included in the slasher-horror, and most of them with Mia Goth at the center. Goth masters the craft of conveying terror, while also making audiences fall in love with her. This doesn’t mean we believe our girl Max is invincible, and that’s something else to love. We know Max is vulnerable, but she is not going down without an over-the-top, excessively violent and bloody fight.

Other lovely ladies who do a killer job in the movie, are Halsey as Tabby Martin (a friend of Maxine's), Elizabeth Debicki as Elizabeth Bender (a film director), Michelle Monaghan as the badass Detective Williams, and Lily Collins as one of Maxine's co-stars in a film. Go watch MaXXXine in theaters this Friday, July 5.
