Speculation about Streep and Short being a couple began when she joined Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. Streep was cast as Loretta Durkin, the love interest of Short's character Oliver Putnam. The actors had remarkable chemistry, which didn't go unnoticed by fans.

Did their onscreen romance translate into a real-life love story?

Well, Short has set the record straight about his relationship with Streep. In a statement to The Messenger, Short's rep debunked the dating rumors. "They are just very good friends, nothing more."

The Emmy winner hasn't dated since the death of his wife Nancy Dolman in 2010. The couple met in 1972 and married in 1980. Dolman was also an actor, but retired from show business to be a stay-at-home mom to the couple's three kids.
