Are an Oscar winning actress and an iconic funnyman, Hollywood's newest couple?

That's the question on everyone's mind after Meryl Streep and Martin Short's interaction during Sunday's Golden Globes Awards. The Only Murders in the Building nominees were seated with their co-stars during the ceremony. But viewers noticed Streep and Short seemed rather cozy with each other throughout the show.

Streep and Short's interaction has further added fuel to the reports that they're dating. According to PeepsWiz, rumors about the two dating surfaced in October 2023, shortly after Streep announced her separation from her husband Don Gummer.

Streep and Gummer married in 1987 and have four children together. Although they announced their split in 2023, they had separated six years earlier.

Martin Short responds to the Meryl Streep dating rumors

Speculation about Streep and Short being a couple began when she joined Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building. Streep was cast as Loretta Durkin, the love interest of Short's character Oliver Putnam. The actors had remarkable chemistry, which didn't go unnoticed by fans.

Did their onscreen romance translate into a real-life love story?

Well, Short has set the record straight about his relationship with Streep. In a statement to The Messenger, Short's rep debunked the dating rumors. "They are just very good friends, nothing more."

The Emmy winner hasn't dated since the death of his wife Nancy Dolman in 2010. The couple met in 1972 and married in 1980. Dolman was also an actor, but retired from show business to be a stay-at-home mom to the couple's three kids.

In a 2019 interview with AARP magazine, Short talked about life after his wife's death. The actor said it was "tough" losing her and described their marriage as "a triumph." Short also revealed he still communicated with his wife and that her death taught him to take risks.
