Billie Eilish soars to the top of pop airplay with 'Birds of a Feather'
Billie Eilish's new hit, "Birds of a Feather," has climbed to the top of Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, earning her a third No. 1 on this important list. The track on her album Hit Me Hard and Soft is still going strong, having seen an 8% rise in plays between September 13-19. The Pop Airplay chart, which tracks spins on more than 150 mainstream top 40 radio stations monitored by Mediabase, illustrates the enduring role of Eilish’s music in the industry.
Leading the way for two weeks in April 2021 was Eilish's hit 'Therefore I Am,' and her smash 'Bad Guy' stayed at the top for two weeks in August 2019. After the success of 'Lunch' climbing to No. 10 on the Pop Airplay chart in August, "Birds of a Feather" keeps up the pace.
According to data from September 12, the new album from Eilish, Hit Me Hard and Soft, has established itself as a tremendous success since its May 17 debut, recording 1.5 million equivalent album units in the United States. The singer talked about her love for creating cohesive albums in a late-night interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on September 3. According to her, "I’ve always been such an album lover." What I particularly love is when something feels its own piece and is cohesive and methodically considered.
Along with topping the Pop Airplay chart, "Birds of a Feather" has moved to No. 5 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 and has generated 396 million official on-demand streams in the United States. There has been a total of 395 million radio listeners along with 58,000 downloads. There is no question about the appeal of the track around the world, having spent three weeks as number one on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts in August.
The hit song from Eilish ranked No. 9 on this year's list of 2024 Songs of the Summer, her second top 10 seasonal ranking since "Bad Guy" took the No. 2 position in 2019.
As Billie Eilish gears up for her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour, taking off on September 29 from Quebec City, her newest No. 1 smash is the opening act for what promises to be a sensational run. On Tuesday, September 24, Billboard.com will update all charts dated September 28, proving her continued rule in pop music.
