Big Freedia is going on tour and is set to headline PrideFest in Oklahoma

Bounce music superstar Big Freedia aka The Queen Diva recently announced a summer tour on their social media account. The tour features 11 dates all in June, and eight coming up soon. Some of the shows require a ticket, while others will be held at Pride Festivals around the country such as Oklahoma PrideFest, located at Scissortail Park in Oklahoma City.

How do these shows get booked?

Ever wondered what goes into booking a show at a Pride festival? I had the pleasure of speaking to Oklahoma Pride Alliance President Kylan Durant and asked about the process and while it is important to book such well known artists to headline PrideFest:

"The process is long but oh so fun! We start by building a list of desired performers and slowly dwindle it down to about 3 so we have options in case our first pick doesn’t work out! I always LOVE thinking about various artists coming to OKC for PrideFest and so it makes all very fun. We work with a talent agent to help us secure these incredible artist. Our agent is bought into the vision and helps make sure that is communicated to all the artists and their teams. Once secured we go through all the normal contracting process. It’s a big day when we get the fully executed contract! Then before you know it, it’s time for Oklahoma PrideFest! Highlighting queer and allied artists is so important for the Queer community of Oklahoma. It brings major visibility and love to us. It lets them know that even incredible artists care about and love them! We believe this kind of investment in our community is worth it. The queer joy at our event is unmatched!"

Big Freedia will become the fourth artist to headline PrideFest in Oklahoma City, joining Aly and AJ in 2023, G-Flip in 2022, and Greyson Chance in 2021. Last year, the crowd for Aly & AJ drew an estimated crowd of overall 20k. There is no question The Queen Diva will also draw a large turnout for a performance that will not want to be missed.

About Oklahoma PrideFest

Oklahoma PrideFest is an annual three-day Pride festival held in the heart of Oklahoma at Scissortail Park located in Downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The festival is heading into its fourth year and will feature music, drag, art, vendors, food, resources, youth events, sports, and last but not the least, a parade on Sunday.
