If there's one book trend we're all loving right now, it's romantasy. Whether it's the setting, the romance, or the fantastical elements, it's something everyone can get behind. It's even better with Throne in the Dark, though.
The first book in A.K. Caggiano's Villains and Virtues series, this book is the start of the series and one that is a #BookTok darling. While those can be a mixed bag, this one has gotten so many positive reviews that it immediately shot up my TBR. Plus, this cover is just too incredible not to talk about.
We're here to talk about the new cover, which feels like something fun and fresh while also paying homage to the old cover. The colors are similar, but with just a few more details added to fill it out, and it looks amazing. While most will be pulled in by the gorgeous cover, that's just one reason why you'll fall for this series.
I'd like to thank Sourcebooks for letting me reveal the cover and getting me so excited about this series. As soon as I heard the pitch and saw the cover, I was sold. Plus romantasy is so hot right now so it was an easy pick.

Before getting into some of the special features in this new edition, I wanted to feature the cover again in its full glory.

Looking at the cover, you can see how truly gorgeous it is and how it pays homage to the old cover while also feeling like something new. However, that's not the only exciting thing to share, as Sourcebooks Casablanca gave me all the fun details you need to know about this upcoming release.
First is that this version of Throne in the Dark includes two internal black & white illustrations from Charlie Bowater. Charlie Bowater is a brilliantly talented artist and has done so many beautiful illustrations, so that's major. If you have time, be sure to check out their website as it's full of so many beautiful images.
If that wasn't enough, this new edition includes a spicy bonus chapter, a map, and sprayed edges, which have me so excited to get a finished copy. Regardless of whether you're new to this series or have loved it for years, it's exciting to see it getting a redesign and being rereleased by Sourcebooks Casablanca.
For those craving a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers story brimming with tension and all the '90s nostalgia you could want, you need to add Throne in the Dark to your TBR. Even if you've read it before, you'll have to grab this new edition to add to your bookshelves. Once again, I'd like to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca for putting this one on my radar and allowing me to reveal the cover.
Throne in the Dark by A.K. Caggiano will be re-released on November 4th, 2025.
