Jonas Brothers: Ranking the two singles from It’s About Time
When the Jonas Brothers announced “The Tour,” fans were scratching their heads as it was toted as “5 Albums. One Night,” but the band has six albums. Of course, we’re talking about their debut which is It’s About Time.
While the brothers are known for their time at Disney, this was before Disney and frankly, wasn’t a massive success for the band. Sadly because of that, It’s About Time doesn’t get nearly as much love as it should.
However, after wrapping up ranking all the singles from each Taylor Swift album, I knew I had to do the Jonas Brothers. They’ve been my favorite band since 2007 and they hold a special place in my heart so I had to start from the very beginning and that’s with It’s About Time.
It’s About Time was released in August 2006 and was considered a flop. Released by Columbia Records, the album only produced two singles. Both of them are amazing so it’ll be hard to rank these two yet I’m excited to talk about these singles and show some love for It’s About Time as the Jonas Brothers currently aren’t.
Let’s rank the two singles from It’s About Time by the Jonas Brothers.
This was easy as pie for me which I’m sure I won’t be able to say later and since there are only two, let’s get in the song at my #2 spot which is “Year 3000.” Before my fellow Jonas fans come from me, just hear me out for a second.
Since “Year 3000” was a single on It’s About Time and the next album, I knew I wanted to put it in second place. While it’s one of the band’s most popular songs, it also wasn’t written by them despite being a massive hit. If anything, the recent remix the Jonas Brothers did with Busted finally gave Busted some much-needed props. While this song was one a lot of fans first heard from the band, it ended up coming in second place for me.
Of course with “Year 3000” being #2, that means that “Mandy” was the top single from It’s About Time. For me, this one was a no-brainer. I mean the song became part of the band’s 2019 reunion tour setlist. Whether you’re a new Jonas fan or not, you always recognize those first few chords of Mandy and know you’re in for a treat.
This is a song written about a friend of the brothers and is still a fan favorite to this day. It’s all about Mandy, how great she is, and how the lead singer aka Joe isn’t going to let her go. I feel like this is a great song to listen to if you’re just getting into their music and gives you a good idea of what the band’s sound would become.
In addition, it’s an incredibly catchy one and features easily one of my favorite choruses the Jonas Brothers have ever written. Some lines include: “Mandy always laughs when I act stupid/I am unaware that I’m a nuisance. With her, it’s never wasted time” and “Mandy always knows exactly what I’m feeling/ She’s always on my mind…” This song is quintessential early Jonas Brothers and it still lives on despite It’s About Time being over 15 years old now. Just listen below and you’ll know what I mean.
