Actress Kristin Davis is famous for her role as Charlotte York on the romantic comedy-drama series Sex and the City and its spinoff, And Just Like That. Charlotte is portrayed as an optimist when it comes to love and her dream was always to get married but her road to the altar wasn’t as easy as she expected.

Charlotte’s first marriage to Trey MacDougal ended in divorce which led her to find love with her divorce lawyer Harry Goldenblatt. After Charlotte and Harry married, the couple later had two daughters, but while Charlotte’s dream of marriage finally came true, for Davis, marriage has never been on her radar.

Kristin Davis says getting married was never one of her goals

The one goal that Davis shared with her character, Charlotte was motherhood. The actress adopted both her daughter Gemma and son, Wilson in 2011 and 2018, respectively.

Davis enjoys being a mom, but doesn’t envision playing the role of a wife in her real life. In a recent interview with Best Friend Energy podcast, Davis reveals the reason why she hasn’t bothered to get married.

"“I’m not married, I have never been married. It’s not my thing. I was never focused on it. It was never a goal, let’s say.”"

So even though Davis has shied away from saying “I do”, she eventually would, when her character, Charlotte got married. Davis even admits that it was challenging to embody the energy needed to play the blushing bride.

"“I would stress out on those days where I would have a paragraph on a page of all…the rules and the marriage. And oh my God, I would just be like, ‘How am I going to do this and make it real and believable?'”"

One thing that helped Davis tap into Charlotte’s need for marriage was the actress’ own Southern upbringing.

"“I knew people like that. I knew it was real. Charlotte was didactic. She was 100 percent devoted. I wanted you to see the need that was underneath that. I loved where it went.”"

Despite the opposing lifestyles, Davis’ performance as Charlotte definitely wowed viewers. Fans can see Charlotte navigate marriage, motherhood, and work in Season 2 of And Just Like That which is currently available to stream on Max.
