It’s been 25 years since Sex and the City debuted on HBO. The hit television series followed the lives of columnist Carrie Bradshaw and her friends as they experienced love in the Big Apple. The writers and producers delved into a variety of women’s topics, including motherhood.

Charlotte and Miranda are the only two characters to become mothers but each lady’s journey to motherhood took a different route.

Sex and the City initially was going to have Charlotte and Miranda pregnant together

In Season 4, the dynamic of Sex and the City changed. Charlotte was married to Trey and struggling to have a baby. Meanwhile, Miranda became pregnant after a one-night stand with her ex-boyfriend Steve. Miranda decided to keep the baby and later gave birth to her son Brady. However, Charlotte’s journey to motherhood was wrought with more challenges, but if the producers had stuck with their original plan, Charlotte could’ve become a mother much sooner.

In an interview with And Just Like That…The Writers Room podcast, Kristin Davis revealed a dropped storyline involving Charlotte’s pregnancy.

"“I remember I was supposed to get pregnant, we were both going to be pregnant, we were going to be different mothers and you were going to showcase the different mother. I was so excited because Charlotte wants to get pregnant and I wanted Charlotte to be pregnant. I wanted what she wants for her.”"

Davis’ excitement over the storyline was short-lived when executive producer Michael Patrick King informed her they were nixing the story.

"“You came to me and was like, ‘I’m sorry, Charlotte is not going to be able to get pregnant. I just don’t have enough storylines to have both of you, because I don’t know enough people who have the babies, and the women writing don’t have the babies. It’s not going to be good and we’ve got to make it this other way.'”"

While Charlotte and Miranda being pregnant at the same time would’ve made a compelling storyline, things didn’t work out. Charlotte eventually became a mom when she and her second husband Harry welcomed their daughters Lily and Rose.

Fans can see Charlotte’s motherhood hijinks when Season 2 of And Just Like That… premieres on June 22.
