And Just Like That cast and crew upset Samantha’s cameo was leaked

Season 2 of And Just Like That… is currently underway. The HBO Max revival is generating lots of attention this season with the return of a favorite Sex and the City character.

Actress Kim Cattrall will reprise her role as Samantha Jones in an upcoming cameo appearance. Cattrall played the sultry PR executive for six seasons during the show’s original run and later returned to the New York City-set franchise for the two films, but after the release of Sex and the City 2 in 2010, Cattrall claimed she was done with the franchise; But the actress seems to have had a change of heart.

Samantha’s And Just Like That… cameo was supposed to be a secret

While the Sex and the City gals were friends onscreen, it was a different story behind-the-scenes. Cattrall has been embroiled in a feud with Sarah Jessica Parker since the show’s early days. The reason for their feud was because of money and Cattrall wanting a paycheck equal to Parker’s.

Whatever beef there was between the two ladies was apparently squashed when Cattrall signed on for the two films. However, Cattrall seemed to reignite their feud and alienate her other co-stars when talks of the TV reboot swirled. Cattrall claimed she was done playing Samantha and was ready to move on.

The Sex and the City producers kept Samantha’s memory alive in And Just Like That… Samantha’s currently living in London, but has been texting Carrie.

Now fans will see Samantha’s much-anticipated return with her upcoming cameo, something the cast and crew wished would’ve been kept secret.

In an interview with The Wrap, Cattrall’s co-star Cynthia Nixon expressed her disappointment that the news was leaked.

"“My overwhelming thought at the moment is that I’m so deeply disappointed someone leaked it to the press. It was going to be such a wonderful surprise that, as people were watching an episode, ‘Oh, my God! There’s Samantha! You know?”"

The show’s executive producer Michael Patrick King was also upset that the secret got out. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, teased there are a few surprises with Samantha’s cameo.

"“I am a little bit upset that you even know about it because I really wanted you to be sitting there watching the show, see Carrie look at her phone and all of a sudden seeing Samantha. But there’s a secret. You don’t know why she’s there and what’s going to happen.”"

Despite the metaphorical cat being let out of the bag, Samantha’s cameo generated a lot of welcomed buzz for the show. Fans will have to wait and see if Cattrall’s appearance lives up to the hype.
