If there’s one show a lot of us have connected over, it’s New Girl. Originally airing on Fox, the show eventually made its way to Netflix.

Now, I’m sad to report the series is no longer going to be on Netflix. Beginning on April 17th, the series will begin streaming on both Hulu and Peacock. This was decided via a deal between Disney and NBC Universal as reported by Variety.

While it’s sad to see the series be removed from Netflix after 10 years, it’s nice to know it’s going to be on other platforms. Additionally, it feels like the end of an era for both the show and its fans.

New Girl is one of those shows people connected with and seeing it be removed from Netflix and featured elsewhere does feel like it’s closing the book on something much larger.

Removing New Girl from Netflix is a surprisingly sad start to 2023.

Every generation tends to have that buddy comedy that we all love. For some, it was Friends while others point to Living Single or even, Golden Girls. Regardless, I feel like New Girl was the perfect buddy-comedy but with so much more attached to it.

If you’ve never watched the show, it follows Jess who moves in with three guys as their only female roommate and it’s basically following their lives, friendships, and relationships. Each character has such a distinct personality that there’s one for every person in a friend group. You can decide whether you’re a Jess, a Cece, a Nick, a Schmidt, or a Winston. If you’re really special, you might even be a Coach.

Most notably and the reason why I find it so sad is that New Girl was a show a lot of people watched and enjoyed while quarantining. In the “Welcome To Our Show” podcast, the stars of the series even shared that the show got such a resurgence amidst the pandemic that they were regularly getting approached by fans.

Honestly, I feel like that’s a testament to just how much fun New Girl is as a series. Whether you watched because of the friendships, the jokes, or the relationships, there was a little bit of something for everyone. Frankly, I don’t feel like there was a bad season of the show either aside from the final season.

Regardless, I know a lot of us enjoyed pulling up Netflix and watching a few episodes of New Girl to unwind. While we’ll still be able to watch some episodes, it’s going to be a little different from what we’ve come to know for the past decade. If anything, hopefully, this will cause another surge in popularity for the series or even cause Netflix users to watch it even more.

No matter, you really can’t go wrong with a New Girl marathon. All I can say is that when April rolls around, hopefully, you’re either subscribed to Hulu or Peacock or plan to be in the future.
