It’s time to revisit the 1990s American Girl style.  Meet twin sisters Isabel and Nicki, who represent the decade of grunge music, the return of bubblegum pop, the internet, and the Y2K scare.  The latter was what put the Millenium entry on the map.

The twins may have different styles and interests but share the same love for the Pizza Hut Book It Club and “girl power.”  Which is what American Girl represents.

Isabel and Nicki come from Seattle, Washington, the home of grunge and the entire 90s aesthetic.  Isabel, as American Girl puts it, “loves dancing, pop music, glitter, and “all things pink.”  On the other hand, Nicki enjoys “alternative rock music, skateboarding, and creating zines.”  Isabel is wearing a Clueless-inspired pink sweater vest over a white button-up, plaid mini, knee socks, and pink chunky heels.  On top of her head is a deep pink fuzzy beret.

Her twin Nicki wears a sporty gray jumper over a baby tee, a light blue backward baseball cap with pins, a choker necklace, a purple plaid flannel shirt tied around the waist, ankle socks, and platform sneakers.  The fashions are typical of the era but are making a strong comeback.

If the clothes don’t kick you back into the 90s (if you’re old enough to remember), then the accessories that the dolls have certainly will.  How about a bulky, heavy desktop computer with CD drives and an annoying dial-up tone?  A cordless landline phone?  Animal and floral prints?  Inflatable furniture that you actually sit on?  And alien memorabilia everywhere?  The Isabel and Nicki line makers went above and beyond to get those nostalgic details just right.

For those of us who grew up in the era, it’s fun to remember the times.  For those who didn’t, they’ll learn what life was like before smartphones, social media, and cancel culture.
