A Spooky #TBRTrending: Splatterfest by Robbie Dorman
October is all about the scares and that’s why this week’s #TBRTrending had to be horror and that’s Splatterfest by Robbie Dorman.
If you caught last week’s installment, you’ll know that Summerside Lake Massacre was a new favorite for me. As I’ve previously mentioned, I love slasher horror books and that one was a bit different but still had some slasher vibes.
Considering how much I enjoyed that one, I decided to give Splatterfest a try and it was another solid horror book. Of course, I won’t get into any more details until I start discussing the plot but let’s just say that if you like slashers, then this is another one to add to your Halloween TBR.
With how much I’m hying it up, no doubt you’re dying to hear about this one. Well, at least you’re hopefully not actually dying but let’s talk about Splatterfest.
This week’s #TBRTrending pick is Splatterfest by Robbie Dorman.
With a title like Splatterfest, there is no telling what this book will cover. However, the title comes from the fact that a group of small-town employees is working together to put on a larger scale Splatterfest complete with celebrities, horror icons, and even, movie premieres. The only downside is that the convention is being held in a compound where thousands of people died a la Jonestown.
Things start off a little spooky until we find out that a lot of the famous people attending are being killed and nothing seems to be stopping them. Despite having the title of Splatterfest, there isn’t much gore in the book but a lot of the kill scenes are pretty gruesome.
If you’re a horror movie lover, then this book is chocked full of references and callbacks to your favorite movies and well-known horror actors and actresses. Couple that with the ragtag group of employees in Gary, Stephanie, and Dan, you’ll end up feeling like you’ve fallen into a horror movie and just want the good guys to survive and the bad guys to get what’s coming to them.
While I won’t go into many of the plot details, Splatterfest did surprise me with some of the twists, but overall, it was a pretty straightforward horror. That’s not to say it’s bad as I had an enjoyable time reading it and I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for something to read this Halloween.
This is also my first book by the author, Robbie Dorman but I know I’ll be returning and making sure to check out his backlist. If you’re looking to try out this author, his books are in Kindle Unlimited if you want to try something before you buy. If not, you can get Splatterfest for $4.99 on Kindle.
