Roswell New Mexico has come to an end and since that very first episode where we saw Michael and Alex kiss, Malex has been endgame. For many of us, they were the love story that we wanted to see this entire time.

Over four seasons we watched these two hurt each other, try to find love with others, and ultimately realize that they are each other’s home. While Season 4 saw Alex lost in a parallel dimension (and basically out of the picture due to the health of Tyler Blackburn), there was never a time when we weren’t thinking about Malex, especially watching Michael struggling with moving in with the man he loves, even as he still had this idea of traveling back to Oasis in his mind.

The epic love story of Alex and Michael came to an end in the Roswell New Mexico series finale in a way that honors the characters and the long road they have traveled. And while we would have loved to see how Alex was healed after his journey to the alternate world, what better way to wrap up their story than with a wedding.

Roswell New Mexico gives Malex their happy ending with a wedding and a chance to drive off into the night together

Not only did we get to see Alex and Michael get married, but we got to see them do it in the center of town with all of their loved ones at their side. We got to see Michael play the guitar for his husband. We watched as these two had their first slow dance as a married couple and we got to listen as Alex took Michael’s last name – dropping the Manes moniker for good.

It was beautiful to hear Michael tell Alex that he got to marry his high school sweetheart and share another kiss for the road. And when I say for the road, I truly mean it.

In the final moments of Michael Vlamis and Tyler Blackburn bringing Michael and Alex to life on our screens, we get to see Malex drive out of Roswell with the “just married” sign and all the cans and metal tied to the bumper of Michael’s truck. It is at this moment, as we watch them drive away from the Crashdown, that we know that this was their final moment on our screens and it was truly bittersweet.

It was a beautiful goodbye for a couple that many of us fell in love with on January 15, 2019, when Roswell New Mexico premiered on The CW.

For a while, we worried about Malex being the end game. We wondered if they would get a happy ending or if one of our characters would end up dying before these two could get to their happily ever after. But in the end, they are the couple that truly got an ending that not only they deserved, but that the fans needed.

We may have wanted a true final season to see how their story grew post-wedding, but if this is truly the end (we never say never when the fans get loud), then we are absolutely satisfied with the fact that two men who became the heart of Roswell for four seasons got to walk away as Mr. and Mr. Guerin.
