Batgirl is one of the most interesting characters in the DC world. That’s why it was so cool to see her finally getting her own feature film.

All of those hopes were quickly dashed, though. At the very beginning of August, Warner Brothers announced that the film was being shelved. Most notably, it’s not getting a release theatrically or on HBO Max.

Yes, the news is disappointing but frankly, it’s more annoying for everyone involved. The movie is essentially done as it’s in post-production. Ultimately, the entire ordeal is leaving a bad taste in a lot of fans’ mouths and honestly, makes me scratch my head.

Honestly, this news comes after a frankly lackluster showing at SDCC 2022 and doesn’t give us any hope for the future of the DCEU.

Shelving Batgirl is disappointing for more than just the fans.

Firstly as someone who was excited about this film, this is just disappointing. The film was set to be released this year and then it was shelved. Everything would be okay if Warner Brothers decided to comment but we haven’t heard anything. If anything, it’s more worrisome as Batgirl was likely close to being released on HBO Max.

While we as fans are disappointed, it’s likely nothing compared to how the cast and crew of the film are feeling right now. Most notably, Leslie Grace was set to play Batgirl and now, all of the work she’s done is just essentially gone. I mean hopefully, we’ll eventually get to see something but it has to undoubtedly sting for her.

Additionally, this was poised to be a huge role for Brendan Fraser. Of course, we were all waiting to see how he embodied his role and to see him on the big screen again. Unfortunately, we’ll have to see either go back and rewatch episodes of Doom Patrol or wait to see him in The Whale. Either way, it’s annoying as it would be awesome to see how he portrayed Firefly.

As if seeing Leslie Grace as Batgirl and Brendan Fraser as Firefly wasn’t enough, Michael Keaton was supposed to return as Bruce Wayne. Honestly, this news is just so upsetting and stupid as this cast and us as fans deserve better. Personally, with those three at the helm, there is no way this movie was going to be disappointing and even if it was, I guess we’ll never know.

Next. Will Batman be showing up in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom?. dark
