From kindred spirits in revenge to a promise of friendship, Josie and Hope have had one of the most emotional and significant connections and dynamics throughout Legacies and The Vampire Diaries Universe.

The two never gave up on each other, always going the distance to protect each other from villains or save them from themselves. So, it fit the character when Josie’s departure was connected to her season 4 arc of desperately wanting to find a way to reach Hope’s humanity. However, things took a confusing turn when Hope’s humanity returned, but Josie was nowhere to be found.

Finally, however, the Legacies series finale fixed that, confirming a detail viewers had hoped to validate since the Mikaelson family reunion. Josie had been responsible for the family reunion, which returned Hope’s humanity to the forefront. Using the talisman Hope had given Josie in season 1, Josie placed a spell on it and sent it to Hope’s family. In the end, Josie’s plan was successful, proving how well Josie knew what Hope needed.

Sadly, Josie never appears in the series finale or performs a voice-over revealing the exact wording of what was in her letter to Hope. However, the acknowledgment that Hope knows the truth of the depths Josie went for her is enough to reference their history. But, rather than leave it at that, Legacies takes it one step further to prove how much Hope trusts Josie.

Only one weapon can kill Hope, and it is indestructible. Due to it being a God-made weapon, Hope can not destroy it herself and struggles with what to do with it. Should she hide it? But, in that case, Hope is the only one who knows its location. But by the episode’s end, Hope knows precisely what to do.

Legacies proves the strength of Josie and Hope’s connection when Hope reveals to be sending the weapon to Josie, verifying how much Hope trusts Josie with her life.

While Josie and Hope never speak directly in the series finale, Legacies ensured to validate their connection. While it is uncertain the next time they may see each other again off-screen, Legacies does not conclude the series by undermining Josie and Hope’s importance to each other.

Instead, the series finale made sure to emphasize it. Hope could have sent the weapon to any of her family members to keep it safe. Instead, Hope determined the person she trusted most with it was Josie. Although Josie is not physically present, Josie and Hope’s dynamic remains one of the strongest bonds the franchise has ever created.
