Miranda Cosgrove spent her formative years as a Nickelodeon starlet, and she is just as invested in the future of Carly and Freddie’s relationship (affectionately called ‘Creddie’) as the fans who grew up with her. Culturess sat down with the actress to chat about the iCarly reboot, her new role in promoting USAA’s traveling exhibit Fort Innovate, and a possible return to her singing career.

Q: First thing’s first, Miranda! Season 2 of iCarly just ended on a really big cliffhanger. What can you tell us about what is in store for season 3?

Miranda: Well, I definitely think they’re going to have to pick up where they left off. We’re going to somehow have to explain where everyone’s state of mind is after the ending of season 2. I think we are going to get some more answers about what Carly is feeling toward Freddie, so I’m even excited to see what the writers come up with for that.

Q: What’s it like to bring back old fans of iCarly and bring in some new, younger fans for the reboot? That has to be a pretty unique and amazing experience.

Miranda: It’s crazy because I grew up doing the original iCarly. I started when I was 13, and it finished when I was 20, so to come back eight years later and do a reboot that we really made for the original fans has been a wild experience. Getting to see the sets again after all these years and being around my co-stars Nathan (Kress) and Jerry (Trainor) again every day has been awesome. It’s heartwarming to me and kind of makes me feel like we have come full circle to know that the original fans are probably watching with their kids today.

Q: You’re part of a new initiative with USAA called Fort Innovate. Tell me about it and why you wanted to get involved.

Miranda: I love STEM, and I love science, and I have since I was little. I host a show called Mission Unstoppable that’s all about showcasing women in STEM, so it felt like a really good fit for me. Fort Innovate is this really cool traveling exhibit. It’s going to go all over the United States, it’s free, and it’s for families and kids to just go and have a fun science experience.

Q: Sounds cool! Have you gotten to test any of the stuff out yourself?

Miranda: I haven’t gotten to test it, but I know about all the exhibits inside. There’s a virtual reality one, a night vision one, and a walkie-talkie one… they are all based on military innovations and seem like something I would have enjoyed as a kid, or even now! I hope people have a good time, and maybe some kids get inspired to go into science.

Q. I have one final question for you. It’s about your singing career! Are you ever going to record any new music?

Miranda: I don’t know! I mean, I love singing and the first time I ever recorded anything was the theme song to iCarly when I was 12, and it was such a fun experience. I don’t know, though — never say never! It’s something I love, so hopefully, someday.
