Soaring above the water at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure, the VelociCoaster beckons thrill-seekers with a promise of speed, drops, and a few unexpected twists. When it debuted a year ago, there was a promise of the hunt as those dangerous raptors broke free from the cage. Now, after numerous plunges from the great heights, the Apex Predator of thrill rides still delivers on that rush.

While Orlando might be the world’s theme park capital, the reality is that visitors and locals balance the new and old when it comes to favorite rides. Although the unveiling of the latest attraction brings anticipation and excitement, the ride cannot be just the shiny new toy that fades once the lines get shorter.

A ride’s longevity that has riders coming back and back again proves its success. Even if there is no change in story or experience, it is that blend of familiar and thrill. When a ride can still cause a flutter in the stomach with that anticipation, it has hit its mark.

As seen with this Universal Orlando roller coaster, fans continue to line up for the experience. Whether ridden as the sun rises over the park or in the darkness as the coaster’s lights break through the darkness, everyone cannot get enough of the experience.

Combining a smooth ride, intense thrills, and reasonable wait times has been a winning combination. Plus, who doesn’t love watching other riders dangled upside right in front of the ride’s entrance.

While Universal Orlando is heavily invested in the Jurassic franchise, it is more than just a plunge down the River Adventure or grabbing a young kid to experience the Pteranodon Flyers. It is bringing a taste of that movie magic to the screen.

Even the Jurassic-themed food adds flavor to the experience. From the Isla Nubar IPA that calms the nerves before or after the ride or the gigantic burger that satisfies the biggest carnivore, every part of the experience makes people feel as if they have passed under that iconic arch for real.

Although people can debate whether Jurassic World Dominion is the best end to the historic franchise, those dinosaurs captivate people. That touch of reality blended with imagination makes people think. While everyone knows that meeting Blue is part of theme park magic, that little nudge blurs the line between movies and reality.

And, if people choose to skip the movie ticket and strap back into the ride car, that’s ok too. The thrill of the hunt never disappoints, and that’s a good thing.

The VelociCoaster is located in Islands of Adventure at Univeral Orlando. More information on ticket prices and operating hours can be found online.
