Rebel Wilson comes out during Pride Month

In a recent post on Instagram, actress Rebel Wilson revealed that she has been dating a woman, designer Ramona Agruma. Support and congratulations immediately flooded in on the 42-year-old Australian’s post and all over social media, with fellow queer icons like Ariana DeBose and Glennon Doyle joining the cheerful chorus. The caption to her post reads: “I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess 💗🌈💗#loveislove.” It’s not unusual for celebrities to publicly come out during Pride Month, even if they have already done so privately; it’s just a matter of who and when. During last year’s Pride Month, celebrities such as Alexandra Shipp, Lio Tipton, and David Archuleta came out.

Wilson had previously told People she’d found a partner after being set up “through a friend.” She claimed she was happily in a “healthy relationship,” though she never specified the individual or their gender. Wilson had previously dated Jacob Busch — of the Anheuser-Busch company — and said that, after dating several people in the summer, last fall she decided to take a break and enjoy being single. However, she lamented to best friend Hugh Sheridan that she’d “never been in love,” something that has apparently now been amended in her new relationship with Agruma. Sheridan is the one who set up the two women, believing that “a woman with a woman that’s successful might lift each other up.”

For the most astute among her social media followers, Wilson’s relationship with Agruma comes as no surprise. Wilson took Agruma as her date to the Vanity Fair Oscar party in March, and they attended a ski fundraiser together in April. Last month, Wilson posted a picture of her and Agruma on horseback, celebrating Polo Pride; the post was accompanied by heart emojis. Wilson can also be seen with her hand on top of Argruma’s arm at a dinner on May 15. On June 1, she marked the official start of Pride Month by saying: “Gotta love a pride themed donut! Happy Pride everyone #loveislove.”

Wilson’s latest film, Senior Year, has become very popular on Netflix (despite somewhat negative reviews) and is her first post-pandemic role — the first, too, since her dramatic weight loss. She is next set to star alongside Charlotte Gainsbourg in The Almond and the Seahorse, which is currently in post-production. Wilson is perhaps best known for playing “Fat Amy” in the Pitch Perfect franchise, as well as scene-stealing roles in Jojo Rabbit and Bridesmaids.
