Cruel Summer season two details and a Private Practice reunion
Freeform has finally revealed what to expect from the second season of the hit drama Cruel Summer. The first season followed the journeys of Kate Wallis and Jeanette Turner throughout three years in the nineties, slowly piecing together the truth of whether or not Jeanette saw Kate inside Martin Harris’ house.
After a whirlwind of a season finale that eventually revealed that while Jeanette had never seen Kate, she had heard her shouting from the basement and left her there, the season seemed to end on a note of wrapping up most of the bigger mysteries and questions. So, when the series was renewed for a second season, it was curious how the show would develop.
Rather than continue Kate and Jeanette’s battle, Cruel Summer has chosen another direction, deciding to become an anthology series. Season 2 will focus on a variety of new characters and storylines.
In addition, the series will also feature an entirely new cast, which will include a reunion between Private Practice co-stars Griffin Gluck, KaDee Strickland, and Paul Adelstein. Season two will also feature Sadie Stanley, Eloise Payet, Lisa Yamada, and Sean Blakemore.
The second season will follow its predecessor’s lead of telling the story through three different timelines, suggesting the various stages of how the main storyline will evolve. The season’s focus will be on a mystery along with a teenage friendship that grew into a love triangle.
Going the anthology route allows Cruel Summer to tell any stories it wants without having to directly connect it to its previous season. As a result, Cruel Summer can continue to tell exciting and intriguing mysteries without being stuck to what it previously did.
The show’s first season covered the topic of grooming in an in-depth portrayal of the relationship between Kate and Martin. Season two certainly has the opportunity to discuss similarly dangerous and vital issues throughout its run.
