Lena Luthor is officially returning to the Arrowverse
By Anna Govert
Since Supergirl flew off our screens in November of last year, it’s been a waiting game to see which characters from the show would appear again in the Arrowverse at large. We finally got our answer: Lena Luthor is returning to the Arrowverse in DC Comics’ EARTH-PRIME #1, releasing in local comic shops and online April 5.
The first issue, which will follow Batwoman’s Ryan Wilder, features an original story by Batwoman writers Natalie Abrams and Kelly Larson. The story follows Ryan as she tries to help save a high-schooler who fell victim to Clayface’s mud, taking place during season 3 of the show.
The EARTH-PRIME series will serve as an off-season crossover for The CW’s superhero universe, and will eventually tie back into the new seasons of the shows when they premiere in the fall, pending renewal.
Abrams teased a special guest character when the comic series was first announced, saying it was someone she had already written for the screen. Abrams finally revealed on Twitter that the character would be none other than Supergirl fan-favorite Lena Luthor.
The released panel shows Lena meeting Ryan for the first time and telling her that Kate Kane visited Kara Danvers, prompting her to seek Ryan out. This interaction marks only the second time a Supergirl character is interacting with Ryan’s Batwoman after Alex and Ryan were featured together in The Flash’s Armageddon event last year.
Lena’s inclusion in this crossover could mark a point of hope for fans of the younger Luthor in seeing their favorite character again. As mentioned, the EARTH-PRIME comic series will tie into the shows in a much bigger way, potentially leading to the mention of Lena on Batwoman, at the very least. At most, maybe we could see Lena on our screens again much sooner than anyone expected.
EARTH-PRIME #1 releases on April 5, with the second installment featuring Superman & Lois releasing on April 19. The final issue in the six-issue event will be a cumulative crossover, releasing in June.
