The Simpsons make history with all women leads for the first time ever

For the first time in its thirty-three season run (and 719 episodes) The Simpsons will have an all-female creative team behind the March 13th episode, “You Won’t Believe What This Episode Is About -Act Three Will Shock You!”

And, right smack-dab in the middle of Women’s History Month, the piece could’ve not been timed more appropriately.  The episode was written by Christine Nangle, directed by Jennifer Moeller, with layouts by Heejee Kim, and co-directed by Debbie Spafford.

In the historic half-hour, Homer mistakenly locks his poor dog,  Santa’s Little Helper, in his car on a hot day, which the aftereffects are both humiliating and hilarious.  In today’s day and age, the incident is caught on camera, then goes viral on social media.  Comedian Kumail Nanjiani steps in as a “secret agent” type fellow called Theo, who runs an internet victim company named The Institution.  Homer, along with a handful of other Springfield residents, hopes to relinquish their online reps, and maybe offline ones, by enrolling in Theo’s class.

Variety also a sneak peek where Theo is teaching Homer and his classmates by giving them a tough assignment.  “You Won’t Believe What This Episode Is About – Act Three Will Shock You!” will be the first time Jay Pharoah will provide the voice of Drederick Tatum-Springfield’s answer to the famed boxer, Mike Tyson, replacing Hank Azaria.  During the rise of the BLM movements, The Simpsons execs decided to have people of color voice nonwhite characters.  Harry Shearer, who voiced Dr. Julius Hibbert from the first season up to 2021, also stepped down. Actor Kevin Michael Richardson has been voicing the doctor since.

The Simpsons are known for creating monumental episodes that reflect the times, both old and new, respectively.  Earlier this season, love blossoms between Waylon Smithers and an eccentric fashion designer named Michael, voiced by Victor Garber.  The episode was written as a collaboration between writer Rob LaZebnik and his son Johnny.
