How I Met Your Father renewed for season 2

Who is the father of Sophie’s son? Is it someone the series has already introduced or another surprise man that Sophie had met the night of the pilot? Well, luckily, there will be more episodes to find out. Hulu has officially renewed How I Met Your Father for a second season, meaning there is a lot more of Sophie’s story to tell.

Although the show’s biggest enigma revolves around the mysterious father, a secret helped by keeping Sophie’s future son off-screen, plenty of romantic conflicts still occur in 2022. Sophie may be dating Drew, but How I Met Your Father continues to suggest a possible connection between her and Jesse, as well as showing Sophie’s bond with Sid during “Stacey.”

However, Sophie is not the only one facing romantic dilemmas either. All of her friends are facing issues in existing romantic relationships or struggles in starting one with the potential to go the distance.

Sophie’s relationships, platonic or romantic, are also vital in helping Sophie grow as a person. The show never pretends that Sophie knows precisely what she is doing. Instead, the series expands on that Sophie is still figuring it out, which is perfectly fine. Sophie may figure it out eventually, and her friends will undoubtedly play a role in that as they develop for themselves too.

A second season can also take time to flesh out the complexities of the aspiring friend group. How I Met Your Father showed several of them meet or reunite in the pilot, so over the first season, they have been trying to figure out what the new dynamics mean and what their roles are. More time with these characters means they also can get to know each other better and grow into their friend group.

How I Met Your Father has faced criticism since its premiere, but a second season could allow the show to grow beyond its initial reviews or comparisons to How I Met Your Mother.
