Many people during quarantine in 2020 became plant parents. Lockdown did not start the house plant craze, but it certainly did not hurt the trend. This brings us to the 2016 Nickelodeon TV movie Albert. If you have not seen the movie, it is a must-watch for families or plant lovers.

The runtime is just under an hour so if you are watching this one as a family it is perfect for after school or before bed. Moms and dads alike might recognize some of the voices they hear. Titular character Albert (Bobby Moynihan) and his pal Maisie (Sasheer Zamata) are voiced by SNL alums. The villain in this story Cactus Pete is voiced by the actor and comedian Rob Riggle.

Movie Plot

The movie follows the story of Albert a very small Christmas tree with big dreams of becoming the Empire City Christmas tree with the help of his best friend Maisie, the house plant. The duo goes on an adventure to the aforementioned Empire City to fulfill Albert’s dream. Along the way, they have an encounter with a cactus, fittingly named Cactus Pete who tries to derail the pair’s quest.

As a side note, there is even a plant shop in this movie called Earth Mama. I cannot stress enough how cute this movie is for plant lovers.

Where to Watch Albert

Unfortunately, Albert is not streaming anywhere for free at the moment, but there is a hack for that. The first time it airs live on Nickelodeon is Christmas Eve, December 24, 2021. However, you can purchase the movie on Vudu for $4.99 and it is streaming on Paramount+ with paid subscription or a one-month free trial.
