Sex and the City revival, The Matrix sequel and more on HBO Max in December

A new month means an exciting new batch of content on HBO Max!  And while the year may be winding down, the list of must-watch premieres and new series hitting the streaming service in the final days of 2021 most definitely is not.

As has been the case for much of 2021, the big news for the streamer is the simultaneous release of a big theatrical property on the same day that it arrives in theaters. While the buzzy awards-bait drama King Richard was the marquee feature on our screens in November, December’s big honor belongs to the highly anticipated return of The Matrix franchise with the sequel The Matrix: Resurrections.

Details about the sequel are sketchy, but we know it’s set 20 years after the events of the original movie and that Neo has somehow returned to his life as Thomas Anderson in the so-called “real” world. How this happened, as well as how he’ll reunite with Trinity and find his way back to the Matrix, is anyone’s guess. But, both Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss are back, so whatever happens, it’ll still be a great ride.

Over on the television side of things, the big news is probably the arrival of the Sex and the City revival, And Just Like That… Though the series will not feature Kim Cattrall’s Samantha, most of the original cast has returned to see Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda explore life and love in their fifties. Maybe it’ll turn out to be a trainwreck and maybe it won’t, but we won’t know until we watch, right?

There are several other intriguing television titles arriving in December, including the premiere of new drama Landscapers and sci-fi adaptation Station Eleven, along with the return of Young Justice. A handful of shows will also conclude their seasons this month, including Gossip Girl and Succession.
