Almost 20 years later, Neo returns in our first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections. The fourth film in the series appears to be offering an updated and potentially changed look at the world of The Matrix. Are you ready to return, Mr. Anderson?

The trailer starts off with Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) sitting in his therapist’s office, explaining that he’s been having dreams that are far too real. He wonders if he’s crazy but he’ll soon remember that he’s been living in a dream and the real world is out there.

Not only will he be able to unlock his powers once again after he stops taking the blue pill, he’ll be reunited with his love, Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss). Together, the two of them will follow the white rabbit down the hole to help the human race once again.

The Matrix Resurrections trailer has been released!

There’s a few things of note here. You know, besides the entire trailer. First, we’re introduced to a new Morpheus played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. It’s unclear if this is a reincarnation of the original Morpheus or if he’s just ascended to the title. Perhaps he’s even the son of the original Morpheus. It’s also not included in the trailer but Jada Pinkett Smith will be returning as Morpheus’s love Niobe, so it’s not far off to assume they are connected.

Another mystery is how Neo survived. He’s aged in the same way that the original Neo would – so did the machines put him into the Matrix and drugged him so heavily that he wouldn’t remember who he is? It certainly seems to be the case – but why?

We also get our first look at the new Agent that will act as the antagonist. Agent Johnson played by Daniel Bernhardt will be pursuing the citizens of Zion throughout the Matrix. We don’t know his motivations yet, but it may be why the machines let Morpheus get to Neo – to eliminate yet another rogue program.

Frankly, I would like to dissect every moment from this trailer but you have to watch it yourself to really see what’s going on. Just know that the song choice for the trailer is chef kiss worthy.

Next. Charmed’s queer representation has lost its magic. dark
